Job Description

The General Manager provides the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure that the division has effective operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people practices in place to effectively grow the business and ensure financial strength and operating efficiency. This position directs the division's operations through a team of functional managers and front-line supervisors, and provides strategic oversight of daily operations including sales, operations, production planning, purchasing, inventory control, transportation, credit, quality, environmental, human resources, and asset management. Additionally, this position serves as a lead company representative in direct contacts with key customers and suppliers.

Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree or related experience
  • 10+ years of stainless steel management experience, preferably both operations and sales
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in successfully leading and managing a significant segment of a large manufacturer/processor or the entire operation of a small manufacturer/processor
  • Working knowledge of business concepts: financial and operations management, purchasing and marketing/sales
  • Strong strategic leadership skills and short/ long-term planning abilities, with the ability to lead teams and drive for results, with and through others
  • Strong industry and product knowledge: trends, issues and emerging technologies in steel/steel service centers, product specifications, and steel processing services
  • Strong customer service and relationship management skills
  • Familiarity with ISO and/or QS 9000 quality management systems
  • Familiarity with ISO14001 Environmental Management systems
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing techniques and Six Sigma
  • Knowledge of inventory management, materials control (flow of material and parts in and out of the plant), production control (efficient production processes) and preventive maintenance
