This position will start a career path working on the METRO Green Line Extension (GLE) Light Rail Transit Project.
How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:
Metro Transit's Capital Programs division seeks to hire a Contract Administrator/Principal Contract Administrator for its METRO Green Line Extension (GLE) Light Rail Transit Project. Housed within the Project Controls Unit of the Project, this role is focused specifically on the management of change orders on the Project's major construction contracts. In this role, you would track and report on the current status of change orders and change order requests; review change orders for accuracy and consistency; assign appropriate cost codes; and other responsibilities as described below. This position is located at the GLE Project Office in St. Louis Park.
This position is eligible for a hybrid (both remote and onsite) telework arrangement. The candidate's permanent residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

What you would do in this job

- Prepare reports and lead weekly meetings to convey current change order status to project leadership and stakeholders
- Process change orders via project management software, including assigning appropriate cost codes, writing brief descriptions, and indicating funding sources
- Process change order requests via project management software, including editing/rewriting change order descriptions and reasons for change before issuing to change order
- Monitor change orders for those that meet Executive Change Control Board (ECCB) threshold, write business items for submittal to the ECCB, and attend ECCB meetings
- Prepare and present reports on forecasting data that track executed change orders against the project budget
- Update and maintain a log of design errors and omissions for construction, design, project controls, and project leadership review
- Promote an equitable, positive, and respectful work environment that values cultural and diversity among all employees
- Perform other related duties as assigned

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

We will fill the position in one of the following classifications, based on qualifications: Principal Contract Administrator (Non-Represented Grade I, Exempt, $93,704.00 - $152,026.80) Any of the following combinations of experience in demonstrating progressively responsible project and/or construction management, and completed education in Architecture, Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, Construction Technology, Planning, or related field:
- High school Diploma/GED with nine (9) years of experience
- Associate degree with seven (7) years of experience
- Bachelor's degree, or higher, with five (5) years of experience
Contract Administrator (Non-Represented Grade G, Non-exempt, $80,142.40 - $130,062.40) Any of the following combinations of experience in demonstrating progressively responsible project and/or construction management, and completed education in Architecture, Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, Construction Technology, Planning, or related field:
- High school diploma/GED with seven (7) years of experience
- Associate degree with five (5) years of experience
- Bachelor's degree, or higher, with three (3) years of experience
Licensure Requirements:
* Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
What additional skills and experiences would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications)
What knowledge, skills and abilities you should have within the first six months of the job:
- Knowledge of construction contracts and change orders
- Knowledge of construction/project management software programs, including e-Builder
- Skilled in verbal and written communications
- Skilled in time management
- Skilled in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, or equivalent software packages
- Ability to effectively present information to Project management and stakeholders

If you are new to the Metropolitan Council, you must pass a drug test and a background check, which verifies education and employment, covers driving record and any criminal record.
