Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Bronco One Stop is a centralized space for students to access common student services to strengthen their ability to navigate Fayetteville State University. The goal of Bronco One Stop is to enhance the student experience with the application process, academic records, financial aid, making payments, speaking with an advisor to register for classes, gaining assistance with degree planning, receiving academic support and navigating university resources.

Fayetteville State University Advising Center's mission is to promote student success by empowering students to achieve their academic and career aspirations. The Advising Center delivers high quality services by providing support with educational planning, course selection, resource awareness, and success strategies.
Description of Work Continued:
Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Director of Advising manages an integrated service delivery model that supports the academic success and experience of students. The director provides holistic leadership and administration of day-to-day operations associated with the management of comprehensive academic advising that allows students to achieve their educational, professional, and creative goals through the full range of institutional and community resources available to them. In alignment with FSU's strategic plan and NACADA Core Values of advising, the Director leads an advising team who engage students in an inquiry process that challenges them to do their best work, become self-directed and complete their educational goals on the way to realizing their creative potential as a professional.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:

  • A master's degree from an accredited institution
  • At least 3 years' work experience in higher education. 2 years of experience in academic advising, counseling, admissions, enrollment management, or student affairs.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the areas of staff supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective academic support services at the college level. Experience interpreting and administering academic policies.
  • Proficiency with EAB Navigate/Hobson Starfish student success management system or other similar platform, Ellucian Banner Student, Canvas Learning Management System and DegreeWorks degree auditing system.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Budget planning and administration skills.
  • 2-3 years' experience advising first-year students, particularly exploratory/undecided students.
  • 1-2 years' experience in advising and programming for special populations (adult learners, military-affiliated, low-income, first-generation, etc.).
  • Affiliation with the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).
