General Description The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to the patient by systematically applying specialized knowledge and skill as derived from the biological, physical and behavioral sciences to the care, treatment, counsel and education of patients with full implementation of the five phases of the nursing process and professional standards of care. The RN is responsible for the direction and supervision of the patient care team including direct involvement in the performance management processes of hiring, discharging and performance evaluation. The patient care team is typically made up of Certified Nurse Assistants, License Practical Nurses and Clinical Techs but may involve other caregivers as needed. The RN will direct the patient care team, assigning and reassigning staff as appropriate to meet patient care needs. The RN will assess the needs of each patient for whom he or she is responsible, as well as the individual skills and abilities of the available staff, and by the application of critical thinking and independent judgment, will determine team assignments to achieve desired outcomes. Job Requirements Minimum Education Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program within 3 years of hire Completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within 5 years of hire Minimum Work Experience None Required Licenses/Certifications Current Michigan Nursing license Current BLS or obtained during Patient Care Orientation ACLS, TNCC, ENPC or PALS must be acquired within the first 6-months of employment (specialty areas only) Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Ability to problem solve Critical thinking skills and judgment necessary to assign and direct others in the delivery of patient care. Knowledge about the care of adult and geriatric patients. Exceptional customer service skills Basic computer knowledge Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) Professional Certifications to support a culture of nursing excellence.
