Position Description

Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions


  • While working under the Project Team Manager will need to mix and match paint, varnish, lacquer, shellac or other finishes.
  • Refinish and restore interior and exterior painted surfaces including modifications or alterations to buildings. Refinish furniture, cabinets, shelves, table tops and other furnishings.
  • Performs painting tasks to include: preparation of various types of surfaces by scraping, sanding and cleaning, and applying paint, varnish, lacquer, shellac or other finishes.
  • Hang sheetrock and assist the Project Team carpenters as required.
  • Maintains records of materials and labor expended for each project or job assignment. Assesses job or project material requirements and prepares requisition for materials from supply warehouse or vendor.
  • Maintains vehicle, tools, equipment and materials in an orderly and safe condition. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks, and vans. Secures vehicle, equipment and areas of operation.

Required Qualifications

Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable to operate motor vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Three (3) years experience as a professional painter
  • Working knowledge and ability to safely perform skills of the painting field including: methods, practices, materials, surface preparation and proper mixing and matching of all types of paints, varnishes, shellacs, lacquers and other finishes.

Minimum Hire Rate

Compensation will be based on the knowledge, skills, abilities, and defined years of experience to align with the appropriate career levels for the Tradeperson specialty in the Operations Division Facilities Maintenance Career Plan.

Pay Statement
