Description of Work

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Tenured and Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate goals.
Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum and instructional development, and grading student work.
Scholarly Research, Creative, and Other Professional Activities - All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in expanding the knowledge base of their academic field by conducting research or engaging in other creative activities as appropriate to the faculty member's discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to research may include but are not limited to: research/creative activity that generates new knowledge and/or synthesizes and/or integrates existing knowledge, publication, an on-going agenda for research, scholarly, and creative activity, and are expected to seek extramural support for their work.
Service to University, the Public, and the Profession - All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to: service to the administration and governance of the University, public service, and service to the profession.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The William States Lee College of Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites exceptionally qualified candidates for 9-month tenure-track or tenured faculty positions at Assistant or Associate ranks in one or more of the following fields: Electrical, Electromechanical, Energy and Mechanical. Candidates with diverse research interests such as those aligned with UNC Charlotte's areas of research focus and distinction are strongly encouraged to apply. Specifically, candidates are expected to have strong research experience in one of the following areas:
* Digital Transformation: Harnessing smart technologies for intelligent, efficient, and sustainable systems which can span from smart buildings and cities, remote sensing, to human - machine interfaces, digital twins, cybersecurity, power and energy and other applications.
* Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Machine Learning (ML) : Using AI/ML to enhance robotics, manufacturing, and energy systems.
* Additive Manufacturing: Using rapid prototyping and manufacturing for electrical and mechanical systems applications like machinery, robotics, and automation.

  • Sustainable energy technology: using renewable energy and energy efficiency towards sustainability and resilience in buildings, power grid infrastructure and transportation.


The successful candidate is expected to develop and sustain nationally and internationally recognized, externally funded research programs specific to their area of expertise, publish in high-impact publication venues, promote students' high-impact learning experience through the integration of research and education, and engage in professional service. Responsibilities for this position include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the department, university, and the professional organizations, including outreach to industry.
The capability to teach typical electrical and/or mechanical engineering technology courses is expected. Candidates with the ability to teach courses in both fields are strongly encouraged to apply.
Minimum Experience/Education
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering/ Robotics /Mechanical Engineering/ Mechatronics / Automation, or a closely related field by the time of contract. Priority will be given to candidates with strong research records evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, externally funded research, and a plan for future research that aligns with university and department research focus stated above.
