This opportunity is for a Therapist to provide counseling services in an Outpatient Program and an Enhanced Outpatient Program to individuals of all ages. This includes establishing a written goal-specific treatment plan, serve as a resource, collaborating on mental health cases and consulting with colleagues, community individuals, or agencies on cases to assist in providing the highest quality of services. This position will also provide School Based Counseling services in local schools. School Therapists work on site in schools to assess student needs, provide consultation and education to school personnel, and make referrals.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This professional therapist position in the Somerset Clinical Services Unit (CSU), Enhanced Outpatient Program (EOP), and School Consultation Program.

Clinical Services Unit (CSU) and Enhanced Outpatient Program (EOP) duties include:

  • Provides individual, marital, group, and family therapy.
  • Responsible for establishing a written goal-specific treatment plan with the consumer within the first two appointments and update TX Plan consistent with state regulations.
  • Provide professional mental health consultation to other program areas and community individuals or agencies on assigned cases.
  • Documents services provided with written reports and up-to-date clinical notes in the chart.
  • Independently, administer and interpret various psychological tests and assessment deemed necessary through counseling.
  • Assist the case managers in assuring the highest quality of services to all consumers.
  • Assist the crisis staff in arranging voluntary hospitalizations, when necessary, for assigned cases to aid in making as smooth a transition as possible from community to inpatient.

School Consultation Program (SCP) duties include:

  • Provide group, individual and play therapy.
  • Formulate treatment plans and maintain consumer records.
  • Complete on-site school mental health assessments for students identified as having emotional difficulties.
  • Assess student needs and complete appropriate referrals.
  • Provides consultation and education to school personnel and other program areas.
  • Completes follow up studies to determine if appropriate services are provided.
  • Independently administer and interpret various psychological tests and assessment deemed necessary through counseling.
  • Provide crisis intervention, coordinates with Crisis Intervention staff as needed.

For both programs, this position's duties also include:

  • Attend monthly supervisory meetings.
  • Participate in staff development and in-service trainings as related to this position, whenever the schedule permits.
  • Assist in presentations/trainings if needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work schedule is 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Hours must be adjusted as needed based upon consumer requests for evening appointments.
  • On occasion, staff may need to work hours outside of the set work week to complete projects, meet work demands, or in the event of an emergency.
  • This position reports to the DBHS Office for work. Upon hire, new staff begin training and are on probation for 6 months. New staff may be eligible for a hybrid of on-site and remote work after 3 months of employment.
  • Effective 1/1/2025, the annual salary increases to $46,644.00.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Psychological Services Associate 1 or one year of professional experience in psychological services work; and a master's degree in psychology or a closely related field.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    1. Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    1. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
