First Generation Program

Position Description

Designs, implements and manages an assigned program. Typical duties can include but are not limited to: Identify funding opportunities, conduct program assessments, prepare program reports, oversee and manage program marketing and communications, manage program databases, supervise program staff, plan research activities, coordinate program events, participate in strategic planning, manage program files, establish program standards and objectives, direct logistical activities to promote the success of programs, develop and implement project timelines and ensures deadlines are met, oversee program budget, ensure goals and objectives of grants are met, assists in proposal writing, comply and analyze program statistics.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Lead the design and implementation of comprehensive programs tailored to the unique needs of first-generation students, ensuring that they have the resources to succeed academically and personally.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and student organizations to create a campus culture that acknowledges and celebrates the experiences of first-generation students.
  • Provide individualized support to first-generation students, serving as a resource for academic advising, navigating campus resources, and addressing barriers to student success.
  • Act as a liaison between first-generation students and campus services, ensuring students are aware of and able to access necessary support services, such as tutoring, counseling, financial aid, career services, and health services.
  • Collect and analyze data related to first-generation student success, including retention, academic performance, graduation rates, and engagement with support services.
  • Regularly assess program effectiveness, gather feedback from participants, and implement improvements to ensure continuous programmatic growth and student impact.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other departments to integrate first-generation student support into the broader university environment.
  • Represent the program at campus events, orientations, student fairs, and conferences, promoting awareness of first-generation student needs and resources available.
  • Works closely with other departments, such as Red Raider Academic Success, Parent & Family Relations, College Readiness, and Student Engagement staff to identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Generalist duties and responsibilities associated with First Gen programming are also expected. This includes serving University or departmental committees as assigned and participating in regional/national conferences as requested.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four years of experience developing or managing programs or projects. Additional job related experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

This position requires a professional with knowledge of and/or experience with student development programs on a college campus. Master's degree in higher education, student personnel/student affairs or related fields preferred.
