With its broad and multidisciplinary faculty expertise, the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute (
EOHSI) is an international resource that supports basic and clinical research in environmental health sciences and exposure assessment and fosters associated programs in environmental health education and public policy.
Established in 1986, EOHSI's major objectives are to:
Advance understanding of the mechanisms by which environmental and occupational chemical exposures impact human health.
Identify and measure human environmental and occupational exposures to chemicals. Treat populations adversely affected by chemical exposures. Develop educational tools describing relative risks of chemical exposures. Contribute to public policies related to environmental and occupational chemical risks. Offer training programs for environmental health professionals.
The Institute serves as an unbiased source of expertise about environmental problems for communities, employers and governments in all areas of occupational and environmental health, toxicology and risk assessment.
EOHSI members are active as advisors to international, national, state and local organizations on public health issues.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey has opening for Staff Nurse Full Time within the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute, located in Piscataway, NJ. In accordance with professional nursing standards, skillfully administers total patient care based on the individualized needs of patients and employees seen at the
EOHSI Clinical Center.
Duties include:
- Utilizes nursing assessment skills to evaluate and triage the health status of patients and employees, make referrals for occupational and non-occupational health/injury concerns of the employee population as outlined in the Standards of Nursing Practice, Employee Health Policy and Third-Party Administrator.
- Responds to emergency situations for employees I visitors based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol. This entails handling emergency circumstances on the Piscataway campus.
- Documents history and physical assessment for assigned patients. Maintains patient's rights to privacy under HIPAA guidelines. Maintains medical records.
- Maintains safe and healthy work environment through planning and implementation of various assurance programs: Tuberculosis screenings, Hearing Conservation, Immunizations, Respirator/Asbestos screenings, Preplacement evaluations, Surveillance evaluations (external and internal patients/employees), Travel Consultations and COL exams in full compliance with the University, State and Federal mandated health related regulations.
- Performs physicals under the direction of the attending physician (i.e. blood pressure, temperature, blood draws, etc.) for screening research participants to partake in research studies.
- Provides nursing services at EOHSI Clinical Center in Piscataway.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey. (Active and in Good Standing).
BSN required.- Two (2) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Current CPR certification
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), operating of Spirometer, EKG and Audiogram.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Three (3) years of Occupational Health experience
- Completion of NIOSH approved courses in Spirometry and Occupational Health Conservation
- Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN), a plus. ACLS certification
