Job Title

Safety Specialist

JOB PURPOSE

The Safety Specialist applies their scientific and practical knowledge of the Safety compliance field in order to innovate, design, and improve systems, processes, equipment, and tools in their assigned areas to improve the Safety characteristics in alignment with daily operations, new model, business plan, and/or innovation to achieve or exceed targets and promote safety excellence.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Lead department and support Plant themes and complex improvement projects.

Proactively cycle PDCA to reduce injuries and hazards and ensure continuous improvement of safety characteristics of assigned areas

Leverage Safety expertise to support Department Leaders, production safety advocates and/or safety committees to achieve self-sustaining safety culture and high level of safety performance.

Accurately interpret and apply the Honda Safety Management manual including NA and HDMA policies and procedures. Participate in PDCA of policies and procedures based on technical expertise

Perform and document complex safety compliance activity including risk assessments, ergonomic studies, and process and equipment innovation.

Detailed presentation and reporting of safety activities and results including complex data analysis and trending

Develop personal technical expertise and professional skills

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS

Minimum Educational Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology or other safety and health program or equivalent related experience

Minimum Experience

0-4 years of safety experience

Other Job-Specific Skills

Interpersonal relationship skills

Detailed understanding of major health and safety regulations and injury/illness prevention strategies

Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization

Verbal and written communication skills

Open to mentorship guidance for personal skill growth

Experience using Microsoft Office products

Effective planning and prioritization skills

Advanced data analysis and problem-solving skills

Some understanding of business plan, budgeting and cost reporting.

Expertise with root cause analysis and implementation of countermeasures

Financial Dimensions

Responsible for budget plan v actual on assigned projects

DECISIONS EXPECTED

Decision-making and direction setting for department safety compliance activities (with supervisory review)

Evaluation of department activities for performance impact (safety risk assessment)

Development and implementation of initiatives to reduce injuries and risk factors in assigned department

WORKING CONDITIONS

Open office environment

Manufacturing environment

Overtime, holiday and weekend work possible (needs will vary)

Able to work varying/rotating shifts for extended periods of time if requested

Minimal travel requirements (<5%) with overnight stay

Ability to perform production line work
