DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will assist construction engineers and project inspectors in managing and overseeing abandoned mine land initiatives, focusing specifically on subsidence control, sealing of mine shafts and portals, underground fire control, refuse pile fire abatement, surface mine restoration, and addressing acid mine drainage issues. Your responsibilities will include aiding in the project management of these initiatives and conducting analyses related to mine shafts, portal sealing, and subsidence control.

You will gain expertise in the reclamation of abandoned mines while assisting the project engineer with field inspections and addressing design challenges. Your contributions will be vital in ensuring the successful execution of various projects aimed at mitigating the impacts of abandoned mine lands.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/2025 through 8/29/2025
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time on a schedule that aligns with the supervisor. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Ebensburg.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:

  • Current full-time enrollment in a bachelor's degree, or advanced degree program in one of the following majors:
    • Civil Engineering
    • Environmental Engineering
    • Mining & Minerals Engineering
  • An approved major course of study at an accredited college or university
  • Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
  • Freshman year completed
  • Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university

  • Additional Requirements:
    • This position requires possession of a valid Class C non-commercial driver's license.
    • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
