This role is Monday-Friday but could involve some community outreach on weekends as needed.

The VCU Tappahannock Hospital Gift Shop & Volunteer Coordinator role is responsible for the strategy and coordination of volunteers (recruitment, training, placement, etc.) to enhance the services at the hospital. The Coordinator will also manage the inventory, finances, and staffing of the Gift Shop that is supported by volunteers to enhance the experience of patients, guests and families.

Essential Job Statements

Administer all aspects of the volunteer program at VCU Tappahannock including recruiting, on-boarding, matching, supervising, and retaining a diverse demographic of volunteers. Volunteer opportunities are available starting at high-school age.

Responsible for tracking volunteer hours and schedules, evaluating productivity, and recognizing contributions/impact to the hospital system.

Partners with department directors, managers, supervisors, and coordinators to evaluate and assign volunteer support.

Actively promotes volunteer opportunities through various channels within the Tappahannock community (i.e. partner with VCU Health Marketing, school recruitment fairs, community events, and social outreach etc.)

Ensure volunteers are completing annual trainings, on-boarding, vaccinations, etc.

Ensures volunteers are in compliance with DNV and other regulatory agencies requirements and that compliance is documented.

Evaluates the performance of volunteers and address performance concerns as needed.

Manages on-going communication, monthly meetings, and social events with volunteers.

Oversees all finances and operations of the Gift Shop including volunteer staffing, buying, inventory management, merchandising, marketing, pricing, financial reports, and budgeting.

Provides oversight of sales with the shop. Ensures gift shop volunteers are trained on all financial procedures for cash and charge transactions to include customer receipts, cash register, credit card machine, refunds, shortages, discounts, reconciliation of cash/sales end of shift.

Provides administrative support as needed for the VCU Tappahannock Healthcare system.

Patient Population: Adolescents (13-17 years), Adults (18-64 years), Geriatrics (65 years and older)

Employment Qualifications

Required Education: HS Diploma

Minimum Qualifications

Years and Type of Required Experience:

Two years retail experience, preferably in a management capacity

Previous general administrative experience

Experience with computers and various software applications

Preferred:

Experience with point of sale system(s)

Three to five years working in human services including volunteer management and program coordination
