AHEC: The North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (NC
AHEC) Program, established in 1972, addresses critical national and state concerns regarding the supply, distribution, and retention of healthcare professionals. Supported by the State of North Carolina's General Assembly since 1974, NC
AHEC has grown into a robust network comprising the NC
AHEC Program Office, nine regional AHECs, and the Duke
AHEC program.

Position Summary |
Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine's Working Forward initiative. As such, this position's work location is designated as hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit's business needs.
The Project Manager will be a key leader in advancing NC AHEC's mission by managing critical projects. This high-level role encompasses strategic planning, resource optimization, project management and coordination, stakeholder engagement, and comprehensive reporting. The Project Manager will leverage advanced project management software to support completion of new and on-going work that will elevate NC AHEC's platform and visibility. Additional responsibilities include developing methodologies for tracking and reporting, managing databases, collecting and analyzing data, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
Key responsibilities include driving the development and launch of new and on-going projects that align with NC AHEC's strategic goals, leading the planning and design of projects to ensure they meet organizational objectives, and overseeing the allocation of resources, to maximize efficiency. The Project Manager will create and implement methodologies for tracking and reporting programs and personnel, ensuring accurate and up-to-date database entry and maintenance, and conducting data collection and analysis to support program development and implementation efforts and reporting. They will manage administrative tasks related to project execution, develop and evaluate programs and policies to ensure they meet organizational standards, and monitor compliance. Additionally, the Project Manager will provide timely updates to internal and external stakeholders, coordinate responses, manage expectations, oversee project timelines and schedules, and coordinate communications including through listservs. They will develop detailed reports on project deliverables, prepare publications and reports to communicate project outcomes, maintain strict adherence to budget constraints, facilitate communication with multiple partners, and utilize advanced project management software to support completion of new and on-going work that will elevate NC AHEC's platform and visibility. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or professional-level background in sponsored research administration, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. |

Extensive experience in project management, preferably within the healthcare or educational sectors.
Proficiency in project management software and tools.
Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
Experience in stakeholder management and detailed reporting. |

The preferred skills for the Project Manager position at NC
AHEC complement the required skills by emphasizing strategic thinking, and conflict resolution. Prefer candidates who possess creative problem-solving abilities and data visualization skills to effectively communicate complex information. Networking skills and cultural competence are preferred for building strong relationships and ensuring inclusive project outcomes. Additionally, experience in mentorship and coaching will foster team development, prior experience within a healthcare environment may assist with this. Finally, resilience is preferred for maintaining focus and effectiveness under pressure, empowering the Project Manager to successfully navigate challenges and drive project success. |
