Responsibilities Job Summary The Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) is a Registered Nurse with oncology-specific clinical skills and comprehensive knowledge of cancer, treatment modalities, and cancer management. The ONN will orient and educates patients, families, and caregivers to the healthcare system, multidisciplinary team member roles and resources. The ONN utilizes advanced clinical thinking and analytical skills that contribute to patient adherence of treatment protocols and symptom management. The ONN will demonstrate knowledge of NCCN clinical guidelines and specialty resources to assist patients making complex clinical decisions regarding the best recommended practice and ensure that appropriate standards of care are incorporated into the treatment plan. The ONN will serve as the central point of contact to the patient facilitating collaboration among all team members and ensuring individualized approach from diagnosis, active treatment through survivorship. The ONN will demonstrate commitment to quality patient care, implement creative and innovative ways to meet diverse patient needs and ensure best practices. Able to develop collaborative relationships both internally and externally. Contributes to the development of nursing research using evidence based research to identify strategies for improving professional development activities, nursing practice, and patient outcomes.
