Position Description

Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operation and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

About the Department and/or College

Major/Essential Functions


  • Manage and oversee the team primarily responsible for awarding, troubleshooting, reporting, and reconciling federal grant and work programs; e.g., Pell, SEOG, IASG, Federal TEACH Grant, and FWS.
  • Supervise a team of financial aid staff, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high-quality service delivery to students and families.
  • Manage and oversee team primarily responsible for federal and state loan programs including Federal Direct Loans and Federal Plus Loans, as well as state and private loan programs.
  • Assess, develop, and implement policies and procedures to streamline financial aid processes, ensuring efficiency and compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
  • Coordinates team training needs and provides ongoing staff development related to federal, state, and institutional regulations/policies and practices.
  • Expects, demonstrates, and ensures a high level of service excellence to internal and external constituencies.
  • Serve as a member of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships leadership team. Work with other leadership to improve processes and create a collaborative work environment. Represent SFAS at events as needed.
  • Responsible for monitoring system rules and set up for processing student financial aid ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assume responsibility for critical decision-making and leadership tasks, maintaining continuity of operations and upholding the office's standards of excellence.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area required plus five years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience working in a leadership or management role within a financial aid office.
  • Familiarity with financial aid software systems such as Banner
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development, and staying current with the industry trends and regulations.
  • Experience understanding and interpreting financial aid and enrollment management data.
