GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for identifying patient needs and priorities for care through assessment and planning based on patient needs, and consistent with the patient's expectation of treatment. Executes therapeutic physician or nursing-initiated interventions and evaluates the patient's response to care and the attainment progress toward patient outcomes. Assists in all procedures performed in the Invasive Cardiology and Interventional Radiology Labs. Through documentation and verbal communication, coordinates care between other professional disciplines as needed. Performs unit-based activities which contribute to a positive work and professional environment.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Initiates assessment based on the patient's presenting problems or needs and the physician's medical diagnosis including collecting key information from patient, laboratory and other medical reports, determining which standards of care and practice apply to the patients situation and documenting assessment and clinical judgments and related information according to Bryan Medical Center procedures.

3. *Works closely with other care providers to complete the initial and ongoing assessments of patients and to provide clinical assistance as needed; re-prioritizes care based on new information.

4. *Performs therapeutic interventions as ordered by the physician with consideration given to knowledge gained from the initial and ongoing assessment of the patient and consistent with population specific standards of care and practice, Invasive Cardiology procedures, Interventional Radiology procedures, demonstrated competencies and with consideration given to risk management and infection control practices.

5. Assembles, operates and troubleshoots equipment needed for various procedures in the Invasive Cardiology Lab and Interventional Radiology Lab; takes appropriate action where needed.

6. Assists in performance of procedures under instruction of the physician.

7. Administers medication according to policy and procedure and/or direct orders of physician.

8. *Documents care based on standards of care and practice and/or clinical priorities for documentation including: assessment and ongoing assessment findings; updated clinical priorities for documentation; and therapeutic nursing interventions with specific attention to patient teaching and patient's response to interventions and progress towards outcomes noted.

9. *Initiates communication with peers and other members of the health care team about clinical priorities for care.

10. *Initiates problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with peers.

11. Provides information to patients and families which reduces anxiety and conveys an attitude of acceptance, sensitivity and caring.

12. Delegates work to other staff members as needed.

13. *Determines the impact of Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology lab and nursing interventions on the patient's condition and recognizes the patient's progress towards meeting desires outcomes.

14. Places intravenous catheters, midlines and peripherally inserted central catheters as assigned; maintains training and competency validation.

15. *Provides direct care to patients as assigned based on caseload acuity, needs and the qualifications and competencies of self and of other staff members.

16. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

17. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

18. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient's growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.

2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

3. Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to nursing applications and relative practice area.

4. Knowledge of radiology procedures, equipment and safety protocols.

5. Ability to delegate work, provide instruction and mentor other patient care staff and students.

6. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment relevant to changing patient needs, including working with patients with acute, chronic and complex disease process, and those who are dying.

7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

8. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.

9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

10. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

11. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

12. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

13. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from a School of Nursing with current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Critical Care or Medical/Surgical nurse or equivalent required. Previous experience in hemodynamic monitoring skills and ECG interpretative skills preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or certification within six (6) months of hire required.
