Central Washington University is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Flute/Woodwind Coordinator to join our Music team in Ellensburg, Washington. The Role:

Central Washington University Department of Music and the College of Arts of Humanities invites applicants for an applied Flute Professor at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin September 2025. We seek a flute pedagogue and performer with national and/or international recognition in the field, and who has a commitment to excellence in music education. Successful candidates will have demonstrated potential to contribute effectively to a faculty team dedicated to creating a positive, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment for an increasingly diverse student population.

The successful candidate will serve the Department of Music as Woodwind Area Coordinator in addition to providing applied instruction in the flute studio. Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will be expected to actively recruit for the flute studio, mentor and advise undergraduate music students, engage in scholarship and creative activities, and contribute service to the Department of Music.

Minimum Qualifications

  • DMA or PhD in Applied Woodwind Performance or related field
  • A minimum of three years of University teaching experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching
  • Scholarship, teaching, service, or other experience that has prepared the candidate to contribute to CWU's commitment to the engagement and inclusion of culturally diverse students

Preferred Qualifications (please address in your cover letter):

  • National and/or international recognition as a flute pedagogue and performer
  • Expertise in a secondary area
  • Experience working in a diverse environment and/or utilizing a variety of teaching methods designed for broad student success
  • Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote inclusion
  • A record of promoting inclusivity in classrooms and academic work environments
  • Experience or interest in mentoring students from a variety of backgrounds
  • Research, teaching, or service that demonstrates an ability to contribute to CWU's commitment to inclusion and diversity
  • Potential to mentor and educate students who will serve diverse populations
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for students through teaching and/or mentoring activities

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Annual Salary: $61,999 - $64,500, based on a full-time nine-month appointment
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Appointment: Full-Time, Tenure-Track, 9 Month Appointment. Additional Summer teaching may be available. Central Washington University is on the quarter system with appointments from mid-September through mid-June.
