Summary:

The Trauma Registrar performs complex technical analysis of trauma and burn patient data.

Responsibilities:
1.Identifies trauma patients based on registry inclusion criteria and sends out daily list to members of the multidisciplinary trauma team

2.Performs complex technical analysis of trauma and burn patient data.

3.Responsible for obtaining, abstracting, correcting and entering appropriate patient data, within 2 months of patient discharge on trauma and burn patients.

4.Analyzes and interprets all available patient data to determine extensive coding classifications including ISS scores utilizing ICD-10 and AIS coding.

5.Responsible for compiling statistics, generating reports on trauma and burn populations and performing data searches for trauma- and burn-related research projects.

6.Assists with submission of data to the American Burn Association and National, Regional and State of Ohio trauma data bases.

7.Enters trauma activation charges into the electronic health record.

8.Communicates with vendor and hospital IT department to troubleshoot software issues, download updates and map check codes

9.Participates in regional trauma activities such as trauma registry education, data validation, and registry maintenance.

10.Assists with data reports and chart preparation for site visits by the American Burn Association and the American College of Surgeons.

11.Other duties as required.

Other information:
Technical Expertise
1.Experience in AIS/ISS coding is preferred.

2.Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.

3.Experience in healthcare is preferred.

4.Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required. Proficiency in the electronic health record and Trauma Base software is preferred.

Education and Experience
1.Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required; Associate's Degree in Health Information Technology is preferred.

2.Certification: Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry or Certified Registered Health Information Technologist is required within 3 years of employment.

3.Attend the following courses within 12 months of hire:
a.American Trauma Society's Trauma Registrar Course or equivalent approved by the Ohio Trauma Committee
b.Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine's Injury Scaling Course

4.Years of relevant experience: 0 to 2 years is preferred

5.Years of experience supervising: None
