CTD Temporary Summer Assistant Residential Director (ARD)

CTD Academic Summer Camp at Northwestern University

As residential leaders of the CTD Academic Summer Camps, ARDs serve as role models and uphold policies with staff and students. ARDs directly support a group of residential staff. Additionally, ARDs serve one of two functions of the residential leadership team: Activities or Health & Housing. ARDs live in the residence hall for the duration of the program and have rotating overnight and on-call responsibilities. Assistant Residential Directors are supported by the Residential Director (RD) in their work with students and staff.

Employment Dates and Stipend

Full time work Sunday, June 15 - Saturday, August 9, 2025

Stipend: $8,500 gross, plus room and board

Qualifications

  • Current or past enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Experience working with students in a residential program setting.
  • Experience using cloud sharing tools, such as Google Drive.
  • Training or background in identifying and addressing social and emotional needs of students.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional demeanor; motivated, flexible and adaptable.
  • A positive attitude toward a position's expectations and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Personal responsibility for the wellbeing of the students and staff with whom they work.
  • Proven leadership experience; staff management experience preferred.
  • Must be able to traverse distances of at least one mile with or without accommodation.
  • Must be able to lift and/or maneuver at least 40lbs.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to teamwork.
  • Must be licensed to drive in the U.S.

General Responsibilities

  • Assist the Residential Director to learn, implement, and uphold CTD policies and procedures, including the CTD Honor Code.
  • Assist the Residential Director to ensure implementation of CTD's standard of supervision at all times.
  • Plan and execute specialized function on the program team, communicating pertinent information to staff and students.
  • Assist the residential director in fostering an inclusive, fun, and safe residential community.
  • Ensure that rules and procedures are enforced consistently and respectfully by residential staff; address challenging behavior as necessary.
  • Communicate any student or staff concerns to the Residential Director or Program Coordinator.
  • Directly supervise and support a small cohort of residential staff in their work with students.
  • Assist the Residential Director in leading daily residential team meetings.
  • Assist the Residential Director with parent communication. Respond to parent concerns quickly, efficiently and appropriately whether communicating in person, on FaceTime, on the phone, or by e-mail.
  • Assist the Residential Director to support development of social-emotional skills among students.
  • Assist the Residential Director to support student health regarding medication, diet and exercise, hygiene, sleep, stress management, and any specific health needs indicated by the family.
  • Assist the Residential Director to evaluate residential staff performance.
  • Assist the Residential Director to evaluate Summer Program and Summer Program staff.
  • Assist the Residential Director to provide support to any CTD program on the Evanston campus, as needed.
  • Assist the Residential Director to assume program-related responsibilities as requested by CTD administrative staff.
  • Must be willing to drive a Northwestern University-provided minivan across campus and across town.
