The Department of Political Science is composed of 16 full-time faculty. It offers BS and BA degrees in political science and minors in public administration, comparative politics/international relations, leadership studies, and security studies at the undergraduate level. It is also home to the multidisciplinary studies majors in security studies and international studies. At the graduate level, it offers a
NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration degree, a Master of Science in Security Studies, and certificates in public management and leadership and security studies. The department emphasizes excellent teaching, quality research, and a tradition of service to the community, university, and discipline. Job Duties |
The Department of Political Science invites applications for a non-tenure track 9-month fixed-term position as a Teaching Instructor, Senior Teaching Instructor, Master Teaching Instructor, Teaching Assistant Professor, Teaching Associate Professor, or Teaching Professor to begin August 2025. This 1.0
FTE appointment will carry an 8-course teaching load in the Multidisciplinary Studies: Security Studies program offered via
PKH. There are 4 terms each academic year in this online program; anticipated teaching assignment is two courses per term during the academic year. This workload is equivalent to 4 courses (12 hours) per semester.
Anticipated Responsibilities: 100% of workload (8 courses per academic year) will be devoted to teaching online, asynchronous courses in the online BS in Multidisciplinary Studies: Security Studies program in partnership with
PKH.
This faculty member will maintain close collaboration with
PKH, the
PKH Program Coordinator, instructional design teams, faculty members, and students. There are no research responsibilities associated with this position.
This position is contingent upon available funding. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
For Teaching Instructor, a Master's degree in Security Studies or Political Science with a focus on International or Homeland Security, with a minimum of 18 graduate-level semester hours in the teaching field required.
For Senior Teaching Instructor, a Master's degree in Security Studies or Political Science, including International or Homeland Security, with a minimum of 18 graduate-level semester hours in the teaching field is required. Candidates at the Senior Teaching Instructor rank should have a strong record of teaching in a university environment (face-to-face and online education) for at least five years.
For Master Teaching Instructor, a Master's degree in Security Studies or Political Science with a focus on International or Homeland Security, with a minimum of 18 graduate-level semester hours in the teaching field is required. Candidates at the Master Teaching Instructor rank should have a strong record of teaching in a university environment (face-to-face and online education) for at least eleven years.
For Teaching Assistant Professor, a PhD in Security Studies or a closely related field such as Political Science or International Relations, is required. An EdD is not an appropriate credential for this position.
For Teaching Associate Professor, a PhD in Security Studies or Political Science, or a closely related field such as International Relations, is required. An EdD is not an appropriate credential for this position. Candidates at the Teaching Associate Professor rank should have a strong record of teaching in a university environment (face-to-face and online education) for at least five years.
For Teaching Professor, a PhD in Security Studies or a closely related field such as Political Science or International Relations is required. An EdD is not an appropriate credential for this position. Candidates at the Teaching Professor rank should have a strong record of teaching in a university environment (face-to-face and online education) for at least eleven years.
A JD alone at any rank is not a sufficient academic credential for this position. Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
