The Department of Transportation is on the lookout for a dedicated individual to join their team as a Tourist Information Counselor. This role involves assisting travelers at Welcome Center facilities by delivering timely, precise, and helpful information and resources that can enhance their travel experiences. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will enhance the customer service experience for all stakeholders associated with the PennDOT Welcome Center, including travelers, tourism industry partners, internal staff, vendors, and others. Your responsibilities will include offering essential information to visitors about their stay in Pennsylvania, such as directions and hotel options, to encourage tourism within the state. Additionally, you will work to elevate PennDOT's outreach initiatives in the tourism sector and fortify relationships with industry partners through specialized programs at the Welcome Center, participation in familiarization tours, travel exhibitions, and other tasks as assigned by your immediate supervisor or division manager.

You will also play a crucial role in supporting both internal and external communications to enhance the operational efficiency of the Welcome Center Division.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a temporary part-time position
  • You must be available to be on call between 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, seven days per week.
    • Temporarily work hours are 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM
  • Shifts vary and working hours are based on operational need.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in work involving public contact; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
  • You must be willing and able to work in and commute to Washington County PennDOT Welcome Center: I-70 eastbound, 5 miles east of PA/WV border, Claysville, PA 15323.
  • You must have the ability to report to work within 1-hour of being called in.

  • You must have front facing public contact experience.
  • You must have one year of work experience involving public contact.
  • You must have experience working with computers.
  • You must have experience answering phones, composing emails, compiling reports, tracking office activities and inventory, entering data, and filing
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
  • Five or more years of full-time experience in work involving front facing public
  • High school diploma or equivalent
