Job Title: Program Assistant

FLSA Status: Full Time - non-exempt
Reports to: Center Director

Schedule: 40 Hours Per Week

Supervises: N/A

Rate of Pay: $24/Hour

Closing Date: 1/15/2024

Benefits: Standard; Full-Time, Non-Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

Scope of Position/Essential Functions:



  1. Assist the Program Director with the coordination and execution of programming in the Red Shield.
  2. Operate as the point person in the Gym during the Open Gym times in the Center schedule.
  3. When necessary, provide support to the Youth Director/After School Coordinator (ASP).
  4. Work well with school-age children and a diverse community.
  5. Supervise and engage children in programs as directed by the Program Director and/or Youth Director/ASP Coordinator.
  6. Supervise and engage children enrolled in Summer Day Camp - transitioning to full-time for the Summer.
  7. Occasionally assist with food preparation, serving, and clean up when activities at the center require it.
  8. Assist in maintaining discipline and encouraging the community to follow the center rules, ensuring all Protecting the Mission Policies are upheld by staff, volunteers, and guests of the Denver Red Shield.
  9. Assist in general cleanup of the program area and with the closing of the facility each evening, particularly in the event that the Program Director is away.
  10. All other tasks as assigned.


Qualifications, Education and Work Experience:



  1. Be a High School graduate or hold a GED.
  2. Must be minimally 21 years of age and possessing a valid in-state Driver's License
  3. Be adaptable to changing situations and flexible in a position requiring diligent attention to children.
  4. Have or obtain a valid Class B Colorado driver's license and must pass the Driver Safety Test.
  5. Must pass an FBI background check.
  6. The individual must show respect for other employees, associates, clients, and the goals and objectives of The Salvation Army.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:



  1. Must be capable of performing essential duties in an office environment to include: using a computer (Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint).
  2. Able to lift 20 pounds, sometimes up to 40 pounds.
  3. Work well with a diverse community.
  4. Ability to speak and write the English language at a professional level.


Software-related skills:

Microsoft Word and Access are required. Outlook, Corps Management working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.

Physical Requirements: Ability to maneuver, remain in a stationary position, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead. Ability to operate the telephone. Ability to access and produce information from a computer. Ability to understand written information. Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
