Assistant General Manager

PURPOSE

Assists the General Manager in achieving all aspects of company business at a location including production, sales, operations, delivery, purchasing, inventory control, customer service, human resources, safety and administrative activities; plans and directs these functions to meet operational and financial goals for the location. Background experience in Lumber and Millwork businesses is highly desired.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Assumes location responsibility in the absence of the General Managers. Keeps manager informed on status of initiatives, issues, schedules that impact the success of the location.
  • Provides direction to the management team and employees to ensure accomplishment of location objectives and goals.
  • Assists General Manager in recruiting, hiring, promoting, training and terminating employees.
  • Assists in preparation of the location budget preparation, operating costs, and annual reporting of the operation. Monitors sales invoices and margins and approve accounts payable when assigned.
  • Recommends and creates operating policies and procedures as required
  • Assist with inventory and expense control.
  • Assist with a total loss prevention program including security, safety and maintenance of equipment, vehicles and property.
  • Supervises assigned employees including staff selection and training; planning, assigning and directing work; conducting performance reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices and ensures that employees observe all safety procedures and practices to prevent injuries or damage; schedules periodic safety meetings and solicits recommended changes to improve safety procedures.
  • Other duties may be assigned.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists with supervising staff and providing general direction to the management team in the absence of the General Manager.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Bachelor's degree in Business or related field and eight (8) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMPETENCIES




  • Advanced knowledge of company products, competitors' products and product standards
  • Ability to compose business reports and budgets
  • Ability to execute plans/projects through others
  • Good interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and an enterprise resource planning (ERP) program
  • Background experience in Lumber and Millwork businesses is highly desired.
