Job Summary
Assist the patient care team in stocking and maintaining equipment in the Emergency Room, provide patient care such as obtaining vital signs, applying monitors, transporting EC Service Line patients to and from testing and to the patient care units, and in certain circumstances, to provide companionship and observation to patients in order to limit purposeful or non-purposeful self-inflicted injury.
Essential Functions
- Provides comfort items (i.e. food, beverages, pillows, blankets) to patients in the EC.
- Completes patient care activities as assigned: i.e., obtaining and recording vital signs, cleaning rooms, making beds/stretchers, placing cardiac monitors, blood pressures cuffs on patients, moving patients into hallways and updating patient location in Tracker, moving patients with C-Spire Precautions, etc.
- Rounds to assess patient/family non-clinical needs.
- Delivers excellent customer service by exhibiting courtesy, direction, image, introduction, dignity, comfort, information, response, confidentiality, and teamwork as defined in the customer service standard.
- Assists in stocking supplies/equipment in all emergency room areas.
- Manages inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Maintains a log for scheduled maintenance of equipment.
- Communicates supply and equipment status and needs to nursing leadership.
- Functions as a patient sitter as necessary.
- Runs for blood, supplies, and/or performs CPR or other duties during resuscitations/critical cases.
- Transports patients to tests, IP beds, etc. as needed.
- Other miscellaneous duties NOS as assigned by the Charge Nurse.
- Provides care assignments under the direction of the registered nurse.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and competently performs technical procedures.
- Provides care and performs duties in accordance with the plan of care, unit routine, and hospital policy.
- Maintains a safe, secure environment for patients, visitors and co-workers.
- Performs delegated responsibilities in which education and training has been provided and competency assessed.
- Uses equipment properly.
- Upholds the patient's rights in the provision of care.
- Promotes infection control and safety as it relates to the patient and employee environments.
- Participates in unit based activities, staff meetings and committees.
- Communicates with Registered Nurse and members of healthcare team.
- Conveys information completely and timely.
- Effectively interacts with others.
- Delivers excellent customer service by exhibiting the Beaumont Standards.
- Demonstrates knowledge, understanding, and embraces cultural traditions and lore of community served.
- Provides assistance to individuals in a manner that takes into account their special needs, cultural needs, and age-related needs.
- Demonstrates knowledge of physical, intellectual, psycho-social, developmental tasks, major fears, and stressors significant for each age group served.
- Demonstrates and is observed to possess knowledge of patient rights, advance directives, and ethical issues each age group served.
- Demonstrates and is observed to possess knowledge and ability to provide a safe environment of care and recognize safety risk considerations for each age group served.
- Provides assistance to individuals in a manner that takes into account their special needs including cultural and age-related needs.
Qualifications
- Required High School Diploma or equivalent
- Related patient care experience. Preferred
- CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association required Or
- CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross required
