DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for the skilled maintenance and repair of a diverse range of vehicles, including cars, trucks, tractors, and various construction machinery such as rollers, sweepers, and mixers, as well as powered hand tools. Your duties will also encompass the repair of diesel equipment, excluding diagnostics, parts rebuilding, and the repair of air brake systems and diesel engine fuel injection systems. You will conduct repairs and implement a preventive maintenance program for vehicles, equipment, and components, which includes performing oil changes, automotive diagnostics, tune-ups, tire replacements, and repairs or replacements of engine sub-assemblies, cooling systems, and various other systems such as suspension, electrical, heating and air conditioning, fuel, brake, steering, and driveline. Additionally, you will make necessary field adjustments to ensure safe operation and reduce wear, carry out minor repairs and preventive maintenance tasks, and demonstrate repair techniques to colleagues. You will also assist other Diesel Mechanics with major repairs, maintain equipment records, provide emergency road service, and occasionally perform maintenance and repairs in field environments at County Stockpiles.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Schedule is subject to change due to weather and season
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship;
    or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires employees to hold a current and valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license.
  • This position requires possession of a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Class 1 Certified Inspection Mechanic.
Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
