Lead Ultrasound Tech

Summary:
Directs coordinates and monitors daily activities of the Ultrasound Department to ensure Department standards of patient care are maintained. Performs all duties of a Sonographer serving as a clinical resource to all Sonographers. Performs complex technical procedures utilizing medical diagnostic ultrasound equipment and an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology to produce diagnostic sonograms. Provides routine ultrasound and vascular services to patients of all ages including: neonates children adolescents adults and geriatric patients.

- Conducts visual checks of equipment prior to each use to ensure safe condition.

Maintains current CPR certification.

Develops department quality improvement activities participates in interdepartmental quality improvement activities.

Operates all Ultrasound equipment and performs all procedures as described in the Sonographer job description.

Demonstrates ability to staff department adequately and prepares monthly rotation schedule and on call schedule.

Summarizes timecards of assigned staff and handles payroll corrections for DI Department.

Assists in the interviewing and selection of Ultrasound staff.

Ensures Ultrasound staff members are properly trained and oriented on all equipment and competent to perform duties and responsibilities.

Monitors the quality of work generated from Ultrasound to ensure high standards are met.

Provides input into performance reviews for Sonographers.

Monitors patient scheduling and ensures appropriate clinical indications are provided for exams requested.

Reviews ultrasound interventional cases with Radiologists and schedules appropriately.

Maintains inventory of supplies.

Routinely checks equipment and coordinates PM*s as needed.

Trouble shoots Ultrasound equipment and the film Laser Camera.

Works with Director to remain within confines of approved budgets for personnel and supplies.

Works with Brown University Health service coder to ensure CPT Codes descriptions and charges are accurate.

Checks and enters vascular surgeons* profees.

Develops and implements PE & I Activities within the Department to improve the quality of care and service.

Performs and documents QC activities.

Assists Director in evaluating and implementing new programs/services

Works collaboratively with Director to ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards and other regulatory agencies.

Assists Director in identifying short and long range plans and goals for Ultrasound.

Works with Radiologist in establishing ultrasound protocols and assists Manager with ultrasound dept. policies and procedures.

Reports pertinent data/information daily activities in Ultrasound at Leadership meetings.

Maintains current knowledge in Ultrasound through membership and participation in professional societies attendance at meetings and seminars and by keeping abreast of current literature.

Acquires and maintains all ACR accreditations

Performs other assigned tasks as directed

Other information:
Qualifications:

High school graduation or equivalent and satisfactory completion of allied health training program and two years of ultrasound experience in a clinical setting.

RDMS and RVT registered or ability to meet the requirements for registry by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

2-3 years supervisory experience required.

Current CPR Certification.

Must be able to sit stand and walk1-3 hours lift 50 lbs with good body mechanics twist and bend frequently.

Must be able to use both hands/wrists and perform work with extensive deviation and frequent fine motor skills.

Far and near vision must be accurate at 20/20 with accurate depth perception able to discriminate between red-green and blue-violet.

Must hear whisper at 20 feet.
