Job Summary:

The School of Medicine Information Services team has an opening for a full-time Information Technology Senior Professional Business Intelligence Developer. This position will assist in the design, development, testing and maintenance of performance-optimized Business Intelligence (BI) solutions for the School of Medicine. This position requires an excellent communicator, a curious and inquisitive temperament, and a strong background in developing enterprise level data solutions. The BI Developer will be responsible for implementing and maintaining numerous BI solutions for a diverse set of stakeholders within the School of Medicine. This role will work closely with School of Medicine data owners to translate business processes and requirements into BI tools that support business operations and strategy. Key Responsibilities: Business Intelligence (BI) Tools and Reporting - 40%
- Create business intelligence tools and reports, such as physical data models and dimensional analyses.
- Author, deploy, and support end-user reports, dashboards, and tools built in PowerBI, SQL Server Reporting Services, Excel, and others.
- Complete full lifecycle development for business intelligence (BI) reports and applications.
- Analyze user needs and requirements to modify or enhance existing reports, data models, and tools.
- Validate and test outputs for accuracy; perform code review, conduct data product user-acceptance testing, and other related testing.
SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) - 20%
- Assist in the development, deployment, and maintenance of SQL Server Analysis Services tabular models.
- Configure data sources, load and modify tables/partitions, create measures, relationships, and model roles to apply row-level-security.
- Assist in authoring novel measures using DAX query language.
Data Warehousing Concepts and Technologies- 20%
- Provide hands-on participation with common analytics and data warehousing concepts & technologies such as data marts, star schemas, facts and dimensions.
- Assist with development and maintenance of ETL integration processes by monitoring daily imports, ODBC connections and event/error management.
- Troubleshoot and optimize ETL pipelines, SQL queries, and ETL jobs for optimal system performance.
Data Architecture and Warehousing- 10%
- Participate in the design, development, and analysis of data architecture, warehousing, and reporting methodologies.
- Design, develop, deploy, and maintain MS SQL databases within School of Medicine Data Warehouse.
Process Improvement & Documentation- 5%
- Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement to add value or create efficiencies (performance tuning, code reusability, etc.).
- Create, update and maintain technical documentation for all data sources, business rules, and data processes.
End User Support - 5%
- Provide direct support to end users of analytics products, including handling support tickets, bug reports, access requests, and general education.

Qualifications:
|
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- At least 2 years professional level experience as a business intelligence developer, software developer, programmer or related occupation which includes experience working with SQL queries to extract data from relational databases (SQL Server and Oracle) in addition to creating stored procedures, views, and user-defined functions.
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years' experience with PowerBI, Tableau or other similar data visualization tools.
- Bachelor's degree in finance or scientific field and/or experience working with finance or higher education administration.
- 4+ years' experience developing BI solutions built on the Microsoft SQL Server Business Intelligence stack: SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
- 4+ years' experience implementing analytical data models within a data warehouse environment (star, snowflake, etc.).
- 2+ years' experience with PowerBI, Tableau or other similar data visualization tools.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular Model development (as opposed to Multi-Dimensional Model development)
- Experience implementing Kimball Group dimensional modeling techniques
- Experience implementing data-driven role-based row-level security within PowerBI and SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular models.
- Experience with Microsoft Power Query Language (M) and DAX (Data Analysis Expressions)
- Experience with Microsoft Azure ETL tools such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Azure Blob Storage
- Experience with version control systems such as Git
- Experience with code repositories and collaboration platforms such as GitHub

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE: $80,000 - $100,000 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
