Job Title: Open Rank-Instructor, Sr. Instructor, Assistant, Associate, Professor

Working Title: Colorado Springs Branch Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC) Director

Position #: 00830011 - Requisition #:35842

Job Summary:

A longitudinal integrated clerkship (LIC) was created based on three foundational characteristics of an effective, core clinical educational environment:

(1) Student participation in comprehensive care of patients over time

(2) Presence of a continuous, learning relationship with those patients' clinicians

(3) Meeting core clinical competencies in an ongoing, continuous fashion

The School of Medicine's Office of Medical Education has transitioned to an LIC model, as part of a larger scale full curriculum overhaul. Core clinical education occurs in a longitudinal, integrated fashion primarily in an outpatient setting, with targeted hospital-based training called immersions placed during the core clinical year (generally occurring during the 2nd year of medical school, known as "Foothills"). Core competencies will be taught encompassing care of adults, children, and pregnant patients and are taught by providers representing the disciplines of family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, surgery and emergency medicine.

In the LIC, students will be placed in Colorado Springs and surrounding area clinical sites as their primary site of learning. Ten students will be placed in the LIC. The mission of the Colorado Springs LIC Program is to provide comparable clinical learning experience to all LIC students at the School of Medicine with a focus on community health through exposure to various clinical sites. The LIC Director will directly oversee the clerkship experience for the students participating in the LIC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operations of the LIC program, including supervision of coordinator support and collaboration with LIC directors and liaisons.
  • Ensure an effective clinical and educational experience for students, including achieving specialty objectives and maintaining an optimal learning environment.
  • Manage course evaluations and implement improvements informed by feedback.

Clinical and Educational Curriculum Delivery

  • Oversee scheduling and delivery of clinical experiences and core clinical didactic curriculum in collaboration with LIC teams.
  • Participate in the development and facilitation of concentration curricula, learning seminars, and pre-LIC orientation.

Student Assessment and Support

  • Conduct regular student progress reviews, support career exploration, and provide individualized advising.
  • Monitor student achievement of entrustable professional activities (EPAs) and oversee remediation as needed.
