Running Gear Assembler

Position Description:

This position performs various tasks necessary to assemble the running gear necessary for transportation tanks. All work duties are under the direction and supervision of the department supervisor/team leader.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Below are examples of the type of duties you could be responsible for:

• Assembles such components as suspensions, running/landing gear, axles by using a variety of hand tools, air tools necessary to fasten together parts.
• Pre-assembly air tanks used in air brake systems according to specifications.
• Tack weld small component parts
• Ability to inspect and test air brake system.
• Verify conformance of parts to blueprints or assembly manuals.
• Layout and drill, ream, tap or cut parts for assembly.
• Completes assigned duties in accordance with safety policies and practices. This includes regard to individual safety, the safety of other team members and the safe use of equipment in the workplace.
• Wears and maintains approved personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, respirators, gloves, protective clothing, grinding shields, etc.
• Ability to shift into different work stations as production demands require.
• Able to participate in group meetings to exchange job related information.

Qualifications:

• Prior mechanical assembly experience or knowledge to be able to perform the responsibilities of this job.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, bills of materials, and written instructions.
• Ability to read a level and tape measure and perform simple match such as adding, subtracting.
• Knowledge of general shop procedures and rules including safety precautions.
• Have the ability and desire to become efficient with mechanical equipment, and learn all aspects of job as required.
• Continually demonstrates a productive and non-disruptive work ethic.
