Position Summary
The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is seeking a highly motivated professional with excellent customer service skills to join our dynamic team as an Administrative Assistant 2. The ideal candidate will be a team player, tenacious, with strong problem solving skills, ready to work in a fast paced, high volume office. This position involves a high degree of interaction with faculty, staff, and students at all levels of the organization. The ability to organize, track/gather and interpret data, prioritize, and be flexible is invaluable. With support this person will be responsible for all purchases, requisitions, reimbursements, graduate contracts and admissions, payroll, student hiring, and scheduling, among other duties as assigned. A successful applicant will have the knowledge and the ability to interpret and enforce UNM policies and procedures to faculty and staff and perform basic accounting functions in Banner, Lobomart, Chrome River, and Scholarship Workflow.

  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with UNM accounting, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to complete student hire requests
  • Experience with payroll data entry
  • Prior corporate credit-card experience
  • Experience with UNM graduate student contracts
  • Knowledge of Banner, Chrome River, Lobomart, MyReports, and UNMJobs
  • Ability to track, research, collect, analyze, and compile data
  • Proficiency using MS Excel spreadsheets and charts
