Position Summary

Description:

The Division of Neonatology is actively recruiting on-call Neonatal Practice Specialists to join our NNPs and PAs at the University of New Mexico's Children's Hospital.

The Neonatal Practice Specialist will provide mid-level medical and patient care services to at-risk newborn infants and their families in a Level II to IV NICU. You will work with neonatologists, fellows and other departmental specialists in this busy NICU, which has access to all subspecialties. You will diagnose and treat in collaboration with these colleagues, make independent and interdependent decisions in the assessment, diagnosis, management, and evaluation of the health care needs of the infant at risk. You will also perform clinically indicated and advanced inpatient management responsibilities with night call in the NICU. There are many teaching, research, and mentoring opportunities available.

Conditions of Employment
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
  • Must maintain certification status.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • CPR Certified.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: National certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. OR Master's degree in Nursing or in Science with Physician Assistant Science emphasis; no previous work experience required.
Certification/Licensure: National certification as Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant pending/eligible.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NRP Certification
  • Knowledge of and experience with patient care requirements of at-risk newborns in a Level IV NBICU
  • Physician Assistants with previous neonatal experience
