Responsibilities

An internal medicine clinic nurse provides care and support to patients primarily dealing with chronic conditions or non-surgical medical issues. Their role includes performing routine assessments such as measuring vital signs, administering medications, and assisting with diagnostic tests. They also educate patients about managing long-term health conditions, offer guidance on medication adherence, and coordinate follow-up care. Nurses in this setting often collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare providers to develop treatment plans, monitor patient progress, and address any concerns or complications. In addition, they ensure that patients understand their health conditions and the importance of preventive care. Clinic RN Duties:
- Patient Care:
- Conduct patient assessments (vital signs, medical history)
- Administer medications and injections
- Assist with medical procedures and diagnostics
- Monitor patient conditions and report changes to providers
- Educate patients on health management and preventive care
- Collaboration:
- Work with physicians and healthcare team to develop care plans
- Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR)
- Coordinate patient follow-ups and referrals
- Clinical Tasks:
- Perform blood draws, wound care, and other clinical procedures
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms
- Assist with triage and prioritizing patient needs
- Patient Safety:
- Ensure compliance with infection control standards and safety protocols
- Monitor patients for any side effects or adverse reactions
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations
- General Support:
- Provide emotional support to patients and families
- Assist with organizing and managing clinic flow and patient schedules
Qualifications
- Current RN license in IOWA
- 1+ years of clinical experience (outpatient/primary care preferred)
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- BLS certification (ACLS a plus)/Mandatory reporter
- Strong communication and patient care skills
- Comfortable with EHR systems and multitasking
- Ability to lift and assist patients as needed
- Standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods
