This position works throughout the hospital with wound care in multiple units.

Major Responsibilities:



  • Develops plan of care for wound/ostomy patients, in collaboration with nursing staff and other members of the patient care team.
  • Selects appropriate ostomy and wound care products based on evaluation of patients' needs and capabilities.
  • Sets direction for nursing practice consistent with effective utilization of resources, patient's identified goals, and standards of care.
  • Utilizes the nursing process at an expert level (Benner) to assess, diagnose and treat the complex responses of individuals, families or communities to actual or potential health problems.
  • Provides education to patients and families, communities and other health care providers; and serves as a role model and preceptor for other nurses in a variety of settings.
  • Shares expertise with all members of the health care team through consultation and collaboration.
  • Takes leadership role for quality improvement initiatives, providing in depth clinical expertise and critical analysis.
  • Provides clinical expertise in the area of wound and ostomy care for patients, considering age specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs.
  • Promotes the use of current knowledge, techniques, and research into the practice setting.
  • Serves as a facilitator and teacher to staff to enhance their knowledge and skills in caring for patients with wound and/or ostomy needs.
  • Continuously reviews the scientific evidence to support clinical practice and institutes practice changes when needed.


Position Summary



  • Position: 36 hours - 4 days/week
  • Shift: Primarily day shift with minimal weekends and off shift. No holidays.
  • Benefits: Full time benefit package


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:



  • Requires a Bachelors degree in Nursing; Masters Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic computer skills, including Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and is self-directed.


CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:



  • Current Michigan License as a Registered Nurse. Completion of Enterostomal Therapy program certification within specialty within 6 months of hire.
  • BCLS (CPR) within 6 months of hire.
