Position Summary

The Nurse Manager's role is to assist and support the clinical team in providing quality healthcare services to Mary's Center patients and guarantee an effective link with other community agencies. The Nurse Manager provides leadership for their health center site, in collaboration with the site Medical Director and Director of Operations and participates in organizational leadership meetings.

Reportability

This position will report directly to the Director of Clinical Services. This position supervises the nursing and medical assistant team for their site.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.



  • Leads clinic team to established outcomes in coordination with overall organizational goals.
  • Manages daily clinical operations to assure optimal efficiency and high-quality care.
  • Provides direct supervision of medical assistants and nurses in the clinic.
  • Provides support and training to Medical Assistants and nurses.
  • Ensures safe clinical practice in the day-to-day nursing activities.
  • Assists site operations leadership as needed in ensuring efficiency and proper use of appointments in the provider schedules.
  • Provides patients with necessary health education and discharge instructions.
  • Collaborates with all team members in the health center to provide optimal patient care utilizing the social change model.
  • Participates in on-call coverage of vaccine temperature monitoring.
  • Coordinates the inventory and ordering of supplies, pharmaceuticals, and durable medical equipment for health center site.
  • Oversees the VFC vaccination program as well as privately purchased vaccines.
  • Ensures proper storage and dispensing of pharmaceuticals and other supplies.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance, Standards of Care, Risk Management, and Infection Prevention activities.
  • Participates in leadership and clinical management meetings and activities.
  • Provides support for the medical providers with necessary tests and procedures and medical interpretation.
  • Fosters communication and collaboration among members of the clinical team.
  • Performs other duties determined as necessary by the Director of Clinical Services and/or Vice President of Nursing.


Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities -



  • Registered Nurse, B.S. in Nursing preferred, and must be licensed to practice nursing in the District of Columbia and/or Maryland.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in working in a community health setting with immigrant populations and/or maternal-child health preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.


Language Requirement - Ability to communicate effectively in English is required. Additional language proficiency or fluency in Spanish highly desired.

Physical Demands - Regularly required to sit; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

Work Environment - Mostly in a typical clinic and/or home setting with quiet to moderate noise level. May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, and humidity due to outside weather conditions. May be exposed to potentially hazardous blood-borne/respiratory pathogens and bodily fluids which require the practice of Universal Precaution procedures.
