Job Purpose

An Analytical Lab Intern will provide general assistance in a professional manner to the lab manager, lab supervisor, and Engineering for the purpose of maintaining departmental workload at an acceptable level. The job function is to be performed primarily with independence and minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Responsible for completing all assigned requests, tasks, and activities involving chemical, physical, and analytical analyses of battery materials and components.
2. Conduct analyses using EnerSys materials test methods (MTM's).
3. Should have knowledge and understanding in the following areas: ICP optical emission spectrometer, Universal Testing Machine (UTM), X-ray powder diffractometer, mercury intrusion porosimeter, UV/Vis spectrometer, LECO carbon-sulfur analyzer, SEM/EDS, TGA, DSC, helium pycnometer, BET surface area analyzer, cyclic voltammetry, GC-MS, digital microscopes, and wet chemistry techniques.
4. Learn to operate the instruments and equipment listed in point 3 without supervision.
5. Maintain a clean, organized assigned laboratory area.
6. Issue comprehensive technical reports and data for Engineering, Quality, Procurement, etc.
7. Good communication skills with Engineering or Manufacturing personnel when providing technical data for review.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Candidate shouldbe a graduate student or enrolled in undergraduate program.
  • Major in related field (chemistry, physics, materials, engineering).
  • Strong communication skills: Verbal and written
  • Ability to use calculators and spreadsheets to perform basic statistical analysis of data.
  • Data-driven approach to problem solving.
  • Able to use MS Office tools including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Smartsheet.

Preferred

  • Interest in electrochemistry and a variety of battery chemistries are a plus.
