Primary Duties: Visually inspect rolls of cloth and record defects. Remove defects during the inspection process. Load cloth rolls into grading frame, doff inspected rolls, and load next roll for inspection.

Tools Required: Scissors, burling tool, pick comb, dye resist pen, water soluble marker, ear plugs, dust mask (if operator must stay in area during blow off), calculator, and brooms.

Materials Used: Rolls of cloth, cloth ID tickets, defect mapping sheet.

Supervision Exercised: None; receives instructions from the Weaving Department Manager.

Job Procedures:

  1. Follow all established Plant Safety rules.

  1. Inspect cloth in the Weave Room the 1st hour of the shift.

  1. Record all defects observed during shift inspections and turn results into the Weave Room Manager.

  1. Record shift, yards, type defect, weaver inspections onto the long form daily.

  1. Load receiving rolls into the roll cradle on the inspection frame. Run roll and perform inspection process.

  1. Clip tops off of slubs, mend defects caused by slubs or waste.

  1. Doff cloth roll after inspection process is completed.

  1. If the grading operation shows the roll to fall into the "seconds" category, the roll is to be doffed. This roll will require special handling.

  1. Perform clerical work at regular doff, seconds doff, tear out (rag remnants and shorts), and at each seam on batch rolls for grading.

  1. Tear/cut out all rags, remnants, and shorts.

  1. Maintain good housekeeping in the Cloth Room area.

  1. Perform all other duties as directed by management.

Minimum Job Requirements: Must be able to read and write. Must have basic math and computer skills. Able to move cloth rolls or obtain help when needed. Must be cleared by Occupational Nurse for vision and color vision.

Follow all Safety Rules, and comply with the Job Safety & Health Analysis (JSHA). All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be used as required. Any accident or near miss must be reported immediately.
