General Information:

The Office of Advancement Marketing at James Madison University (JMU) is accepting applications for a Creative Content Strategist to play a vital role in developing strategic content to support fundraising and engagement initiatives. The successful candidate will have project management experience as well as a track record of developing persuasive promotional materials, crafting compelling storytelling in support of fundraising and stewardship, and possessing editorial and graphic design skills.

This part-time position reports to the Senior Associate Director of Advancement Marketing and works closely with communications and marketing, fundraising, and stewardship staff, as well as with campus partners. The role supports strategies and events that enhance donor engagement and stewardship.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Develop creative concepts for engaging, persuasive, and visually appealing marketing materials while adhering to JMU brand standards.
  • Leverage donor intelligence to design and/or write compelling print and digital materials, that could include solicitations, funding cases, giving menus, gift proposals, event collateral, white papers, newsletters, impact reports, web pages, social media, and magazine ads.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with Advancement partners, print vendors, and external stakeholders, serving as project lead when assigned.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement Marketing team to develop strategies, tactics, and messaging for donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Act as a content creator, managing projects from ideation through completion and communicating project status to team members and partners.
  • Utilize project management systems (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Basecamp) to organize workflows, establish schedules, summarize outcomes, and maintain an archive of design files for future use.



Qualifications:

Required:



  • Experience in public relations or cause-based, branded content creation.
  • Knowledge of graphic design and digital marketing principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign,
  • Professional written communication skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects efficiently while maintaining priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Experience collaborating with teams and independently taking initiative to meet goals.

Conditions of Employment:

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

This is a part-time wage position working up to an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.
