Job Summary

#CA-DS

The Clinical Pharmacist, Perioperative (OR) Services, is an integral member of the health care team responsible for drug therapy monitoring at the point of order review, drug distribution, drug information, precepting pharmacy students and residents in the area of pharmacy distribution where applicable, conducting clinical research, participating in Department Committees, task forces, and work groups, and fostering excellent interdepartmental relationships. They participate in general operational patient care activities and provide support to various pharmacy areas as needed.

The OR Clinical Pharmacist works in a satellite or Central Pharmacy to facilitate drug distribution and provide clinical services across the continuum of care. They are responsible for dispensing medications and monitoring patients for a variety of OR-related procedures, coordinating care with providers, and working to ensure legal and regulatory compliance. They provide quality and cost-effective delivery, consistent patient and provider service, clinical effectiveness, and patient safety. They oversee compounding and technicians as appropriate while working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary care team.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire
  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (PharmD) or equivalent training
  • Work experience in an Inpatient Pharmacy Setting performing clinical or operating room (OR)-related duties.
  • Computer skills that facilitate medication order entry and other basic clinical software programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pharmacy Board Certification [e.g. Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS)] or equivalent experience
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification
  • Post graduate year 1 (PGY1) residency in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to lead/work with, direct and evaluate pharmacy technicians, residents and students, and establish priorities of workflow
  • Thorough understanding and competency with aseptic technique and safe handling of hazardous meds

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.

The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.

Work Environment

The position includes primarily evening shifts (1230-2100, 1330-2200) and rotating weekend shifts with the opportunity to pick up day or NOC shifts based on department need. Basic CPR certification required within 90 days of employment. TB skin testing required annually. Special protective equipment must be used for required preparation of hazardous substances and spill cleanup.
