HDR Colorado is expanding its team of Environmental professionals. We currently have requisitions open for Environmental Scientist 1, 2, and Senior. We will be reviewing qualifications across the open requisitions to define hires and team structure. HDR is looking to add an entry-level to junior environmental scientist to our friendly and highly collaborative Colorado team. Candidates who strive for excellence in their day-to-day work, scientific practice, and careers; as well as those individuals who are interested in continuing to expand their scientific knowledge through collaboration and continued learning will integrate well into our environmental practice. This role involves fieldwork and desk-based analysis. Our fieldwork includes biological resource surveys, habitat assessments, floristic surveys, vegetation mapping, and aquatic resource delineations. These are performed to support impact assessments, impact avoidance, long-term biological monitoring, regulatory permitting efforts, and pre & post-construction compliance. Desk-based workload includes analyzing data collected in the field, preparation of biological resource reports, mitigation and monitoring plans, environmental documents, regulatory permit applications, aquatic resource delineation reports, and other technical papers, as needed. Our Environmental Science and Planning team includes a wide range of local and national professionals. These include biologists, wetland scientists, ecologists, avian specialists, botanists, and geospatial professionals. All bring a diverse range of expertise that is critical to HDR's commitment to excellence. Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Two field seasons of experience performing plant/wildlife surveys in the western United States or central plains
- Strong academic background with a bachelor's degree in biological studies, natural resources, wildlife management, wildlife biology, plant ecology, environmental science, or an equivalent subject. Master's degree preferred
- Exceptional and demonstrated technical writing ability
- Experience drafting and reviewing technical documents such as scientific papers, survey finding reports, permit applications, compliance documentation, or similar required
- Willingness to work on a wide variety of environmental projects across all HDR's businesses, including water resources, transportation, power, development, and more
- A broad knowledge of Colorado's flora and/or fauna and/or the Rocky Mountains, Great Plains, and Arid Southwest regions
- The ability to identify birds of the Rocky Mountains, Great Plains, and Arid Southwest by sight and sound, or strong interest in learning
- The ability to conduct wetland delineations and botanical surveys, or strong interest in learning
- Willingness to work in inclement conditions, travel for a week at a time for field work
- Travel out of state may be required. Travel needs vary seasonally, but can be up to 75% during the field season
- Must be able to navigate rugged conditions on foot for extended periods of time (8-10 hours). Day and night surveys may be required
- Ability to work under the supervision of mid-level and senior environmental scientist and/or engineers
- Good organizational and data handling skills, along with proficiency in MS Excel and Word Experience with ArcGIS desktop software and applications (e.g., Field Maps) preferred
- Self-motivated, positive, flexible, team-oriented attitude with a willingness and desire to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences or closely related field
- Knowledge of wetland delineation, field investigation techniques, and agency coordination requirements
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- MS Office experience
