Job Summary: An International VAT Manager, Global Indirect Tax Services is responsible for advising clients and identifying potential opportunities and providing advice to clients, in a variety of industries, on global indirect tax matters working with the VAT Managing Director. In this role, the International VAT Manager will be expected to have marketable technical skills, and the ability to solve problems and maintain and develop new key client relationships within their area of experience and specialization. In addition, this role will be responsible for recognizing potential changes in tax policy and applying new policies pertaining to global indirect tax matters. Job Duties: Technical Duties:
- Assists clients and BDO client service teams in developing ideas, structures and transactions with a focus on indirect tax matters
- Assists in researching, writing, and reviewing indirect tax advice to provide detail on what is required of companies and also what foreign jurisdictions require regarding indirect tax, researches U.S. and international indirect tax matters
- Collaborates with VAT leader to identify need for other expert resources, internal and external, to assist when necessary to introduce opportunities for indirect tax savings for clients and prospective clients
- Formulates ideas and delivers possible indirect tax savings opportunities
- Coordinates with VAT leader to understand, develop and maintain workplans for tax consulting projects
- Assists with the implementation of Firm tax strategies
- Works with other Firm specialists and client service teams on client and proposal work
- May participate in organizing and conducting effective internal CPE training sessions in the area of specialization
- Maintains relationships with BDO indirect tax experts in jurisdictions throughout BDO International
- Identifies opportunities for and assists in drafting tax alerts in international indirect tax matters
- Assists in managing client expectations

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May supervise the day-to-day workload of Interns, Associates, Senior Associates on assigned engagements and reviews work product
- May deliver periodic performance feedback and completes performance evaluations for, Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns
- May act as mentor, Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns, as appropriate
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Education:
- Bachelor's degree, required
- Juris Doctorate degree, LLM, and/or MBA, preferred
Experience:
- Four (4) or more years of experience in the field of indirect tax, corporate tax, international tax and/or legal professional services or equivalent experience through an advanced degree (program, required
- Indirect tax experience, required
- Experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis, preferred
License/Certifications:
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), and/or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent ("EA") or the equivalent of one of these designations, preferred
Software:
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint, required
- Experience utilizing RIA, BNA, Lexis Nexis, required
Language:
Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and basic legal and tax research skills, including building models and analysis of financial and numerical data
- Solid organizational skills, especially ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on details
- Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently or within a group environment
- Capable of working in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Capable of effectively managing a team of tax professionals and delegating work assignments as needed
- Capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with client personnel
- Ability to successfully interact with professionals at all levels
Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
