The UHS Corporate Clinical Quality Improvement Department is hiring a Regional Director - High Reliability and Patient Safety to collaborate with corporate partners and facility teams to operationalize key strategic initiatives of UHS Acute Care Division by driving the successful implementation of processes to achieve high reliability in patient care and safety. This role will be instrumental in directly engaging with assigned facilities to support staff and leaders to drive initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety, reducing medical errors, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for high reliability and patient safety initiatives across the region in alignment with organizational goals and industry standards. Collaborate with hospital leadership to assess current processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety
  • Provide education and training sessions to hospital staff and leadership on best practices related to high reliability, patient safety, and quality improvement methodologies. Foster a culture of safety by promoting open communication, teamwork, and accountability among healthcare professionals
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams in conducting root cause analyses, proactive risk assessments, and quality improvement projects to address patient safety issues and prevent adverse events. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented interventions and recommend adjustments as necessary to ensure sustained improvements
  • Utilize data analytics tools to track key performance indicators, trends, and outcomes related to high reliability and patient safety. Generate comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate performance metrics, identify areas of concern, and highlight successes to stakeholders at all levels
  • Foster collaborative relationships with hospital administrators, clinical leaders, quality improvement teams, and external stakeholders to share best practices and leverage resources effectively. Participate in regional and national forums, conferences, and professional associations to stay abreast of emerging trends and innovations in patient safety and high reliability
  • Stay up to date on all Acute Care regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and industry trends related to patient safety and high reliability. Ensure hospitals within the region maintain compliance with relevant regulations and standards, including those set forth by regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies
  • Apply strong program management skills in overseeing initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and timelines

Qualifications

Master's degree in Nursing with a minimum of 8 - 10 years' experience in healthcare quality improvement, patient safety, or risk management in multiple facilities.

  • Strong knowledge of quality improvement methodologies, patient safety principles, and regulatory requirements in healthcare
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, data analysis, and process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, PDSA cycles)
  • Proficiency in developing educational materials, training modules, and workshops tailored to diverse audiences, including clinical staff, administrators, and frontline healthcare workers
  • Ability to articulate complex concepts related to patient safety, high reliability, and quality improvement in a clear and accessible manner, fostering understanding and engagement among stakeholders
  • Experience in designing and facilitating interactive learning experiences, simulations, and case studies to promote active participation and knowledge retention
  • Proven ability to build and nurture collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including hospital leadership, regulatory agencies, professional associations, and community partners
  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams, fostering consensus, and navigating complex organizational dynamics to drive strategic initiatives forward effectively
  • Travel up to 50%
