POSITION PURPOSE

The Maintenance Manager leads a multi-shift maintenance organization focused on ensuring optimal equipment reliability, reducing unplanned downtime, minimizing changeover time, and improving overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). This role is responsible for strategic planning, team development, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, spare parts inventory management, and continuous improvement through Lean and TPM methodologies. A strong leader and change agent, the Maintenance Manager fosters a culture of safety, accountability, and technical excellence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES



  • Maintenance Operations Leadership

    • Develop and execute a proactive maintenance strategy that minimizes equipment failures and enhances productivity.
    • Implement and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
    • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action for chronic issues.
    • Establish equipment performance KPIs and drive accountability through visual management systems.
    • Champion the use of digital tools and CMMS for work order execution, asset history, and performance analytics


  • Personnel Development & Leadership

    • Lead, coach, and mentor a high-performing maintenance team across three shifts.
    • Build technical capability through structured on-the-job training, cross-training, and certification programs.
    • Promote a culture of problem-solving, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Conduct performance evaluations, set development goals, and facilitate leadership pipeline growth.


  • Compliance, Safety & Risk Mitigation

    • Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EHS, cGMP, and other regulatory standards.
    • Oversee safety programs, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
    • Maintain detailed documentation for audits, inspections, and equipment history


  • Spare Parts & Asset Management

    • Optimize spare parts inventory using ABC analysis, min-max levels, and criticality assessments.
    • Reduce obsolete inventory and prevent downtime due to part shortages.
    • Collaborate with engineering and procurement to standardize components and improve vendor performance.


  • Budgeting & Cost Control

    • Develop and manage the maintenance department's annual budget.
    • Identify and execute cost-saving opportunities without compromising reliability.
    • Negotiate vendor contracts and manage service-level agreements (SLAs).


  • Changeover & Reliability Improvement

    • Lead initiatives to reduce changeover time using SMED and visual standard work.
    • Collaborate with production teams to improve OEE and line balancing.
    • Analyze downtime and changeover data weekly to identify trends and improvement opportunities.


  • Strategic & Continuous Improvement

    • Lead Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) deployment and 5S implementation within the maintenance function
    • Work closely with Operations, Engineering, and Quality teams to align maintenance priorities with business goals.
    • Stay abreast of technology trends (IoT, predictive analytics, Industry 4.0) and lead pilot initiatives.

      • Reduction in unplanned downtime (%)
      • PM completion rate > 95%
      • Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) increase
      • Changeover time reduction (%)
      • Critical part stockout frequency
      • Maintenance cost per unit produced
      • Technician skill and certification matrix improvement


      QUALIFICATIONS

      EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:



      • B.S. in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred
      • Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered.)


      EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:



      • 10 - 15 years of experience in maintenance leadership in a high-speed manufacturing environment
      • Strong background in packaging, converting, and process equipment
      • Proven experience with CMMS, spare parts management, and predictive technologies


      SKILLS/ABILITIES:



      • Strong technical troubleshooting and analytical skills
      • Effective leadership, communication, and coaching abilities
      • Experience implementing TPM, SMED, Lean, or Six Sigma
      • Union environment experience preferred
      • Able to lead in a 24/7 operation and respond to emergency issues as needed


      WORKING CONDITIONS



      • Manufacturing & Utility Environment - Regular work in plant, production, and utility areas, with exposure to equipment noise, humidity, and temperature variations
      • Physical Requirements - Requires standing, walking, climbing ladders, kneeling, and bending to inspect and maintain equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
      • Protective Equipment (PPE) - Compliance with safety protocols, including PPE use (e.g., gloves, safety glasses, lab coat, or hearing protection) as required.
      • Emergency & On-Call Situations - may be required based on business needs; availability to respond to urgent operational issues may be required.
      • Fast-Paced, Regulated Environment - Work involves adherence to FDA, cGMP, and internal quality and safety protocols in a high-compliance setting.


      SALARY RANGE



      • $110,000 - $130,000 annually, plus bonus
