Field Supervisor II- Parking Enforcement

Department of Finance

Street Operations Division

Number of Positions: 1

(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Salary: $53,340.00/annually

These positions are open to the general public and all current city employees covered under the City's Collective Bargaining Agreement with PUBLIC SAFETY SERVICE EMPLOYEES INTERNATIONAL UNION (S.E.I.U.) LOCAL 73 (I.B.E.W) LOCAL 21 (BU 02). Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid on this position.

Under general supervision, the class functions as a second level supervisor, overseeing parking enforcement activities in an assigned geographical area; and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Monitors field operations to ensure proper staff coverage and effective enforcement of parking regulations in an assigned area.

* Meets with supervisory staff to review staffing, work priorities and status of special assignments.

* Approves work schedules and makes necessary revisions to ensure efficiency of work operations.

* Establishes and implements work policies and procedures to ensure optimum productivity.

* Meets with supervisory staff to communicate procedural changes and discuss special projects.

* Reviews productivity reports and evaluates performance of subordinate staff.

* Coordinates and participates in the training of parking enforcement staff.

* Responds to atypical or sensitive complaints and inquiries from aldermanic offices and the general public.

* Works with departmental managers and other city departments to coordinate parking enforcement activities.

* Represents the department at community meetings to provide information on parking enforcement activities and programs.

* Prepares management reports on work accomplishments.

RELATED DUTIES

Coordinates special parking enforcement initiatives; may testify in administrative and court hearings on parking enforcement operations.

Additional duties may be required for this position

Location: 940 W. Exchange Ave., Chicago, IL 60609

Days: Monday through Friday

Hours: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM OR 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE

Qualifications

* Three (3) years of work experience in the enforcement of parking regulations and restrictions, of which one (1) year is in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position,

OR

* Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree or higher, plus one (1) year of work experience in the enforcement of parking regulations and restrictions, of which one (1) year is in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position.




  • A valid State of Illinois driver's license.



NOTE: You must provide your valid U.S. driver's license at time of processing.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

* Proficiency using Microsoft Office

* Previous experience creating custom reports

* Previous supervisory experience

WORKING CONDITIONS



  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions
  • Exposure to loud noise, fumes, or dust
  • Exposure to hostile situations

  • Cellphone with two-way radio and printer
  • Standard office equipment (e.g., telephone, printer, photocopier)
  • Personal protective equipment (e.g., shoes, gloves, vest)
  • Specialized safety equipment (e.g., bullet-proof vests)
  • Citation envelopes and paper rolls


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



  • Ability to walk and stand for extended or continuous periods of time


* Ability to carry/wear and operate hand-held computer and printer equipment
