Job Summary:

The Graphic User Interface (GUI) Designer will support the client in its strategic vision for utilizing technology to modernize and enhance user interfaces across various applications related to the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Modernization initiative. This position involves designing intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces, contributing to the development of scalable UI solutions, and ensuring a seamless user experience.

The GUI Designer will work as part of integrated product teams (IPTs), collaborating with cross-functional teams that include federal staff, contract staff, and external vendors. The contractor will participate in design iterations and collaborate closely with software engineers and architects to implement user interfaces that meet the functional requirements of the client's UI modernization and related initiatives.

Key Responsibilities



  • Design intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces for state and client UI modernization systems. Ensure designs adhere to the overall client strategic vision for UI modernization, focusing on user experience, scalability, and accessibility.





  • Participate in agile SCRUM teams consisting of both federal and contract staff. Engage with various stakeholders to ensure designs align with business needs, user requirements, and project objectives.





  • Assist in the preparation of preliminary architecture designs, strategy documents, and implementation plans for centralized data management and analytics platforms, ensuring consistent UI design across all platforms.





  • Support software engineering and development teams by providing UI design input that aligns with application development, architectural engineering, and system testing efforts.





  • Continuously contribute to the ongoing modernization of UI systems and support state-level implementation efforts by updating and enhancing UI design based on feedback and emerging requirements.





  • Collaborate with QA teams to ensure UI designs are functional, secure, and meet DOL standards. Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) and support testing of new UI elements across different platforms.





  • Work with the development teams to ensure that designs are scalable across cloud, hybrid, and on-premise infrastructures.





  • Prepare detailed design specifications, wireframes, prototypes, and UI guidelines. Communicate design solutions clearly to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.





  • Design user interfaces for state and client UI modernization systems, ensuring consistency with client standards and best practices.





  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers, application developers, and stakeholders to create wireframes, prototypes, and visual designs that align with user requirements and project objectives.





  • Apply design principles to enhance the usability and accessibility of web applications, ensuring a seamless experience across desktop, mobile, and hybrid environments.





  • Assist in the creation of detailed design specifications and guidelines, ensuring visual consistency across applications.





  • Conduct user research, gather feedback, and iteratively refine designs to meet end-user needs.





  • Provide design documentation for each phase of the UI development process.





  • Participate in SCRUM teams and contribute to sprint planning, retrospectives, and task prioritization.





  • Assist in the preparation of communication materials for stakeholder engagement and training.





  • Contribute to multi-contract team collaboration and assist in ensuring all UI modernization efforts are integrated across the system.





  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in UI/UX design to continuously improve design processes.



Qualifications



  • Years of Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in graphic design, UI/UX design, or related fields, including at least 2 years of experience in designing user interfaces for large-scale, government, or enterprise-level systems.





  • Degree: Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field.





  • Proven experience in developing user interfaces for cloud, hybrid, or on-premise infrastructure environments.





  • Experience with Agile methodologies, particularly SCRUM, and working in integrated product teams (IPTs).





  • Experience in conducting user research, usability testing, and iterating on designs based on user feedback.





  • Familiarity with UI Modernization efforts and understanding of the agency's requirements for user-centered design. Knowledge of secure data transfer and processing standards as applicable to DOL and government systems.





  • Experience with design for accessibility, ensuring compliance with Section 508 standards.



Preferred Certifications:



  • Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) or equivalent proficiency in design tools (e.g., Adobe XD, Sketch, Figma, etc.).





  • Certified Usability Analyst (CUA) or similar certification is a plus.





  • Experience or certification in Agile methodologies (e.g., Certified ScrumMaster) is preferred.



Compensation and Benefits

The projected compensation range for this position is $97,700 to $125,200 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The targe salary for this position is $110,600. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
