Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Field Engineer oversees field logistics, coordinates with Project Managers, and ensures projects comply with all plans and specifications. This role provides advanced technical expertise, leadership, and problem-solving skills to ensure the successful execution of projects. The Senior Field Engineer plays a crucial role in mentoring junior field engineers, optimizing field operations, and enhancing project efficiency while upholding compliance and safety standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Management & Coordination

  • Manages PlanGrid and HeavyJob to ensure project work accuracy, ensuring costs are within budget.
  • Provide proactive solutions to Project Managers, Field Supervisory teams, and Clients regarding potential risks and schedule impacts.
  • Works with multiple job sites/projects. Assists with job site duties to keep job site facilities functioning correctly.

Contracts, Invoices & Budgeting

  • Review, prepare, negotiate, and approve supplier purchase orders with a focus on cost efficiency.
  • Understands owner contracts and subcontract documents, ensuring accurate invoice payments and financial compliance.
  • Validate, reconcile, and maintain accurate quantities for billing purposes and communicate differences to project management.
  • Lead and prepare all change orders, trucking logs, and invoice approvals to ensure financial accuracy.

Permits & Regulatory Compliance

  • Identifies, completes, and applies for local permits.
  • Conducts on-site safety observations, reinforcing compliance with company and industry standards.
  • Establishes and manages site-specific safety protocols, cleanliness procedures, and delivery schedules.
  • Assists in producing and processing project deliverables such as Safety and QA/QC plans and test procedures.

Submittals, RFIs & Documentation

  • Supervise creating, managing, and maintaining project submittals and RFI logs, ensuring accuracy and timely responses.
  • Directs documentation and drawing distribution to field personnel, ensuring seamless project execution.

Meetings & Communication

  • Oversees scheduling and facilitation of Gopher 1 tickets, ensuring utility coordination.
  • Schedule and lead private utility meetings, document discussions, and communicate critical information to office and field personnel.
  • Participate in high-level meetings with clients, owners, and project teams to ensure professional and productive discussions.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.

Subcontractor & Supplier Management

  • Reviews, finalizes, and ensures all subcontractor agreements and P.O. contracts are in place before work begins.
  • Plans and coordinates engineering deliverables, meeting project goals and deadlines.

Estimating & Business Development

  • Assist with estimating efforts, including take-offs, solicitation of subcontractor and supplier bids, and bid preparation.
  • Plays an active role in business development, attending industry events and building client relationships.

Leadership & Support

  • Provides mentorship and training to junior field engineers, fostering professional growth.
  • Demonstrates the ability to independently execute complex tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Assists with high-priority tasks as assigned by management, ensuring operational efficiency.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field with 3+ years of experience.
  • Advanced ability to work in both field and office environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to mentor junior engineers.
  • Exceptional communication skills (oral, written, presentation, listening) with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, able to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills, including experience with cost analysis and risk assessment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction methods and field operations.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in estimating, project management, or field engineering in a related industry.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting project plans, specifications, and contracts.
  • Prior experience using advanced construction software and project management tools.

OTHER:

  • Must be able to pass all pre-employment drug test and background checks.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • Requires 8 to 10-hour workdays, Monday - Friday, with some Saturdays.
  • Travel requirement is to job sites within Rochester and surrounding areas. Occasional travel to other offices and Midwest job sites.
  • This is a Safety Sensitive Role.

Lift to 35 lbs. unassisted. Climb stairs, ladders, or scaffolding and access confined or elevated spaces as needed. Utilize a computer, tablet, or mobile device with natural and/or fluorescent lighting in office and field environments. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and high-visibility vests, as required by job site safety regulations. Travel frequently to job sites, client meetings, or other project-related locations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here represent those employees may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is exposed to environmental conditions, working near machines, and loud noises associated with construction sites. Exposed to variable weather conditions, including rain, snow, wind, cold, and heat. Also exposed to variable terrain.Exposure to dust, dirt, loud noises, heavy machinery, and construction hazards. Requires ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and high-visibility vests for extended periods.

Additional Job Description:

Base Compensation: $75,000 - $95,000

The base salary range may vary depending on geographic location, applicant skills, and prior relevant experience.
