The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (formerly Rutgers Center for Tobacco Studies) is undergoing dynamic and transformative growth. The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies is one of the nation's leading tobacco focused research centers and its faculty have received over $50 million in extramural funding over the past two decades. The Institute's efforts are focused on their mission of reducing and ultimately eliminating, tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.
Five Centers or Programs currently operate at the Institute including a Tobacco Center for Regulatory Science, the Center of Excellence for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco, the Tobacco Dependence Program, a Tobacco Industry Marketing Program, and a Tobacco Control Law & Policy Resource Center. |

Rutgers is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for the Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (
INTS), located in New Brunswick, NJ. The primary role of Principal Statistician is to perform statistical programming, data management, and data analysis under the direction of the Assistant Director of the Office of Survey Methods and Data Analysis at the Institute for Nicotine & Tobacco Studies.
Duties include:
- Provide statistical support for research projects as directed by the Assistant Director of the Office of Survey
- Methods and Data Analysis at the Institute of Nicotine and Tobacco Studies.
- Prepare datasets appropriate for statistical data analysis (e.g., cleaning, formatting, and merging data)
- Perform statistical data analysis, statistical computing, and data visualization using statistical software/language
(e.g., R,
SAS,
STATA). |

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Computational Biology, or related field
- Advanced R, SAS, STAT or related programming skills
- Must be computer literate with proficiency in reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong logical thinking skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently and to handle multiple simultaneous projects.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Preferred Qualifications |
- One (1) or more years of practical experience with data analysis in biomedical research is preferred.
- Experience in data management and manipulation (e.g., using R/tidyverse) are highly desirable.
