THE POSITION

Do you have experience working around horses? Are you interested in utilizing that experience in the exciting world of horse racing? The Department of Agriculture is seeking candidates for Livestock Worker positions to assist Veterinarians to handle horses and record sample data at Penn National Racetrack. Livestock Workers perform important work in ensuring that the rules, regulations, and policies of the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission are followed.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Livestock Worker 1 position is responsible for monitoring assigned horses, collecting urine samples from horses, packaging them according to procedures and completing required records and documentation, and assisting in any other necessary farm activities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Permanent Part-time employment
  • Typical work schedule is Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 5:45 PM to 10:45 PM.
  • The work schedule is vendor controlled and may change as determined by the racing schedule.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Experience in general farm work; and such training as may have been gained through completion of the eighth school grade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Post Employment Requirement:

  • This position will require possession of a Commission Employee License once hired.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
