Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, development planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape the future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including US Space Force, U.S Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. DSG also assists the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems.

The Enterprise Data and Digital Solutions team is focused on integrating a large portfolio of digital technologies across the USSF enterprise to provide near term solutions to our customer's pressing information system challenges. The SDA Mission Processing group is tasked with supporting the Space Enterprise in integrating and deploying secure data processing and command and control (C2) solutions to a variety of environments and platforms. This DevOps Engineer role is a technical position actively engaged in Aerospace's support to this Space Systems Command program office.

The selected candidate will work across many programs in various phases, from acquisition through sustainment, finding least cost and technically sound Cloud Native and DevOps architectures which support mission requirements. The selected candidate will utilize their Cloud Native and DevOps expertise and leadership skills to see software system architectures evolve from concept development and stakeholder buy-in through successful implementation.

Work Model

This position will be a hybrid work model and offer partially remote with some onsite work required in El Segundo CA, as the business needs allow.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and mentor teams developing Cloud Native software capabilities and executing analysis of government capability gaps across programs with an emphasis on Cloud Native architectures, DevOps Pipelines and integrated solutions to achieve mission success.
  • Spokesperson for the Operational C2 Systems Subdivision interfacing between program customers to capture requirements, internal Aerospace technical resources to execute and deliver on objectives, as well as relaying insight and updates to Aerospace leadership on customer issues, risks, and opportunities.
  • Applying skills and adaptability in various areas as a senior technical authority that may include resolution of software systems issues. Support may include: software and Infrastructure as Code development, Cloud Native architecture design, Platform as a Service and DevOps Pipelines concepts, technology recommendations, secure cloud and virtualization deployments.
  • Identifying exciting and innovative opportunities for adopting new technologies to solve existing needs and predicting future challenges.
  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with customer leadership, capability-delivering contractors, ETG and other program office support organizations, including the creation of technical materials and the ability to present to key stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Conduct engineering studies, readiness reviews, technology planning and insertion; performance assessments, and/or market research.

What You Need to be Successful - Project Engineer, Cloud Computing and Cyber Security Architecture

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degreein STEM, with major in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 6 or more years of experience including experience in the years of experience in architecture for software-intensive systems and cloud computing, preferably in the space system domain.
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working through complex engineering challenges which have both technical and political contributions.
  • Hands on experience with VMware, Red Hat or other Linux Operating Systems.
  • Willing to travel occasionally to work location or customer site domestically approx. 10-15%.
  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

In addition to the above, the Sr. Project Engineer, Cloud Computing and Cyber Security Architecture requires the following:

  • 10 or more years of experience including experience in the years of experience in architecture for software-intensive systems and cloud computing, preferably in the space system domain.
  • Experience leading integrated, multidisciplinary, multi-organizational teams.
  • Cloud-based platform work such as AWS, Oracle, Google, or Microsoft Azure.
  • Involvement in complex simulation developments.
  • Proven experience senior level customers and senior leadership.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or closely related technical discipline.
  • Familiarity with military space systems and operational concepts.
  • Experience with processes associated with a government system acquisition and lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, integration, and test of software and/or data-intensive system architectures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Zero-Trust architectures, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code such as Ansible, Puppet, Terraform or other standards-based automation.

We offer a competitive compensation package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
