This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
The purpose of this class within the organization is to provide civil engineering expertise in the operation and expansion of the Murfreesboro water, repurified water, and sewerage systems within the City.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
-
- Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
- Review site plans/plats and subdivision plans for compliance with Department, City and State standards, including review of water, repurified water and sewer main designs and hydraulic calculations for final approval submitted by consulting engineers.
- Determines the availability and capacity of water, repurified water, and sanitary sewer as requested by property owners, developers and consulting engineers.
- Applies engineering principles and practices for the master planning, design, and operation of the water, repurified water, and sewerage systems.
- Makes recommendations for water and repurified water distribution and sanitary sewer collection system capital improvements for inclusion in the fiscal budget.
- Assists with project management to include, attendance of meetings, the review of contract documents, change orders and pay requests.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of water, repurified water, and sanitary sewer line Policies, Procedures & General Design Requirements, Standard Construction Specifications & Details and City Codes as it pertains to Department requirements.
- Designs and develops construction plans as well as develops and revises construction details and drawings through the Computer Aided Design (CAD).
- Prepares hydraulic calculations associated with utility improvements conducted within the Department.
- Reviews both City and TDOT Roadway Improvement projects for conflicts between existing and proposed infrastructure, makes recommendations for infrastructure replacements and coordinates these conflicts and recommendations with the project engineers.
- Assists in the management of the Departments Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation program to include, permanent and temporary sewer flow monitoring contract, outside sewer rehabilitation contract(s) and Closed-Circuit TV database review.
- Assists in preparing agenda, memos, exhibits, etc. for Water Resource Board and City Council approvals.
- Good human relations skills with the ability to communicate effectively with the public, elected officials, members of boards and commissions, department heads, other employees of the City, and employees of other government agencies.
- Performs other work as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis. Ability to walk for extended periods of time on rough terrain and to traverse unimproved construction sites for the purpose of field inspections.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Professional Engineering licensure fulfills experience requirements.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Must possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Tennessee. If licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a PE in the State of Tennessee.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
