Overview

The underwriter will be responsible for the underwriting and servicing of new and renewal agricultural Workers' Compensation business for an assigned group of agencies. Maintains effective relationships with agency contacts to ensure accurate information is gathered for risk evaluation and provides consultation on company product and coverage capabilities that positively impacts risk selection. Enables profitable growth with assigned agencies including periodic profitability reviews and the implementation of profit improvement actions. Must always maintain a professional demeanor. Maintain a solid understanding of AmTrust's mission, vision, and values. Upholds the standards of the AmTrust organization.



Responsibilities

    Efficiently and effectively make underwriting decisions based on review and analysis to write policies. Make sure policy characteristics adhere to company pricing and underwriting guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with other team members and management as needed to assess risks and retain business.
  • Operate within written authority grant and make referrals to management as required.
  • Maintains compliance with state filings and adheres to corporate underwriting and pricing guidelines
  • Collect data for determining coverage and pricing on assigned book.
  • Provide service to assigned brokers on billing, audits and policy changes.
  • Educate agents on underwriting appetite to retain profitable business within the assigned territory.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships by working closely with Underwriters, other departments, and Management to implement agency plans and share accountability in meeting territory goals.
  • Provide support and coaching to the underwriting team and provide leadership to the team to quickly and effectively make risk decisions.
  • Occasionally participate in industry events and travel to meet with agencies to support relationships as needed.
  • Provide professional, timely and courteous communication and service to external clients and cross departmental staff to successfully resolve issues pertaining to policyholders and territory producers.
  • Provide pertinent information and guidance to operations staff required to process coverage requests in accordance with service guidelines.
  • Assist in gathering and sharing competitive information as well as keep current with market trends and demands.
  • Maintain strong product line and industry expertise and stay abreast of changes in markets.
  • Other tasks, responsibilities and projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in an underwriting role
  • Workers' Compensation underwriting expertise.
  • Agriculture experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical ability and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Able to multitask
